SKELETON VEST. APPLICATION rnnn'uu. 1 0. 1903.
N0 MODEL.
" UNITED STATES Patented September 15, 1903.
CHARLES e. FUNK, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
sKELETo'N vEs SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,156, dated $eptember 15, 1903. Application filed January 10,1903. Serial No. 138,585. NO model-) To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, CHARLES G. FUNK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the borough of Manhattan and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skeleton Vests; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improved lightweight or neglige vests for summer wear; and it consists of certain novel features, which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
The vest is intended to go over the shirt Figure 1 shows a man in his shirt-sleeves wearing one of the skeleton vests. Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing the vest'removed. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the vest, and Fig. 4 is another form of the invention.
The vest consists of two flaps secured to the neck-piece and buttoned down to the trousers. In the form of device shown in Fig. 2, A represents one of the flaps connected by the yoke a to the neckbaud a. a a are pockets in the vest. Eyes a are provided to button on the outside or inside of the trousers.
In the form of device shown in Fig. 3 the flaps A are made integral with the neckpiece a, and buttonholes a are provided to be attached to buttons on the outside or inside of the trousers.
In the form of device shown in Fig. 4 the vest proper is precisely similar to that already described with reference to Fig. 2, except that strips a and a are provided to hold the flaps in place, with a buckle a to adjust the fit around the waist.
' This skeleton vest should be made of lightweight'material and worn beneath the ordinary summer-coat. It furnishes convenient pockets for carrying eyeglasses, pencils, and the like, and at the same time is not objectionably in evidence, nor does it materially affect the temperature of the wearer.
It will thus be seenthat I provide a cheap, light, simple, and convenient substitute for a vest adapted to contain a suitable number of pockets and to present a neat and tidy appearance when used as stated.
The vest can be of any suitable color or colors and of any suitable material; but I preferably use light-Weight material, such as linen or seersucker.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-- 1. A skeleton vest comprising flaps spaced apart in front, a neckbaud connecting the flaps together, and means for attaching said flaps to the nether garments of the wearer, substantially as described.
2. A skeleton vest comprising flaps spaced apart in front, a neckbaud connecting the flaps togetheryand means for attaching said flaps to the nether garments of the wearer, with pockets in said flaps, substantially as described. p
3. V A skeleton vest comprising flaps spaced apart in front, a neckband and a back-band, a waistband connecting said flaps, pockets in said flaps, and means for attaching said flaps to the nether garments of the wearer, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
/ CHARLES e. FUNK.
