Description

Feb. 5, 1935. H. DAVITT COMBINATION SHIRT AND SUSPENDERS Filed Aug. 4, 1933 INVE OR 1:7 Jay M W M WITNESSES i. W?
Patented Feb. 5, 1935 UNITED STATES PATET OFFICE Application August 4,
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a garment in the form of a shirt and trousers-suspenders combination.
One of the objects of the invention is the provision of a combination of the indicated character, by virtue of which the suspenders will be substantially concealed to thereby give a neat appearance while sustaining the trousers of the wearer and, at the same time, serving to keep the shirt from creeping up by reason of the bending movements of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a combination of the indicated character in which the suspenders will be retained in comfortable position at all times and yet compensate for various movements of the body of the wearer.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combination of the indicated character in which the suspenders will be so applied to the shirt and in which the suspenders willbe made of such materials, that the shirt may be washed and laundered in the usual manner without the necessity of removing the suspenders, but enabling the removal or separation thereof from the shirt if desired.
In the drawing to which reference is had in the following specification Figure 1 is a view illustrating a combination of the present invention in use;
Fig. 2 is a view looking at the inside of the shirt and illustrating how the suspenders are applied thereto;
Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and shown on a somewhat enlarged scale.
Referring now more particularly to the draw ing, it will be apparent that there has been shown a garment 10 in the form of a top or dress shirt of conventional construction, such as is worn by men and boys. The shirt 10, however, is modified in certain respects for the purpose of associating trousers-suspenders 11 therewith, by means and a manner to be described hereinafter.
The suspenders 11 consist of shoulder straps 12, the rear ends of which are joined by a brace 13, button tabs 14 secured to each of the front ends of the straps 12, and an elastic adjustable connection 15 secured to the brace 13 and having connected therewith button tabs 16. The button tabs 14 and 16 may be made of cord, braid, or cloth of the same material as the shirt. The shoulder straps 12 may be made of links of woven material or ribbon and, if desired, these straps may be elastic. In accordance with the invention, strips 17 of fabric, similar to the fabric of the shirt, are secured to the shirt on the inside thereof, by lines of stitching and extend from a point at the middle of the back of the shirt, under the shoulder portions of the shirt, to points at the sides of the front of the shirt, to define open-ended tunnels. The
1933, Serial No. 683,658
straps 12 extend loosely through the tunnels, respectively. The frontof the shirt has suitably spaced pairs of openings 18 therein, through which the front button tabs 14 extend to the outside of the shirt front, and the back of the shirt has a pair of suitably spaced openings 19 through which the back button tabs 16 extend to the outside of the back of the shirt. The front button tabs 14 may be removably attached to the straps 12, as at 20, so that the straps may be read" ily pulled through the tunnels if it is desired to remove or separate the suspenders from the shirt.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that when the shirt 10 is donned, the button tabs 14 and 16 may be engaged with the usual buttons on the trousers, indicated at 12 in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The straps 12 will then be disposed over the wearers shoulders in the usual manner. The connection 15 will afford a certain amount of adjustment due to the elasticity thereof. This connection 15 also enables the wearer to lengthen or shorten the straps 12 as may be desired. The straps 12 being loosely disposed in the tunnels defined by. the strips 17, may move relatively to the shirt, thereby compensating for movements of the body of the wearer. It will also be obvious that the other objects and advantages mentioned hereinabove may be attained.
It is to be understood that there is no restriction to the precise arrangement of parts shown and described as details of construction may be modified and rearranged without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a garment to be worn over the body, of trousers suspenders consisting of shoulder straps and button tabs on the ends of the straps; and strips of fabric paralleling the strap and secured to the garment on the inside thereof, and extending from a point at the middle of the back of the garment, under the shoulder portions of the garment, to points at the sides of the front of the garment, to define open-ended tunnels, said straps extending losely through said tunnels respectively, and said button tabs extending to the outside of the garment through openings therein.
2. The combination with a shirt, of trousers suspenders consisting of shoulder straps, and button tabs on the ends of the straps; and strips of fabric paralleling the straps and-secured to the shirt on the inside thereof to define tunnels, said straps extending loosely through said tunnels respectively, and said button tabs extending outwardly through openings in the shirt.
