GEORGE E. KECK, or Kansas orrr, MISSOURI, Ann FRED K. cUnnY, oF A ARILLO, I TEXAS.
worn: GARMENT.
meager.
To all whom it may concern:
; Be it known that we, GEORGE E. Knox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and bt-ate of Missouri, and FRED K. CUDDY, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Amarillo, in the county of Potter and State of Texas, have invented certain 1 new. and useful Improvements in Work Garments; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it 'appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a combination of overalls, the primary object being to provide an overall garment consisting of a separable jumper and trousers. The ordinary form of overalls is objectionable, because the trousers are subjected to greater wear than the jumper, and, as a result, the trousers become worn out long before the jumper shows any appreciable sign of wear, the resultbeing that the garment has to be discarded when the jacket or jumper is still quite serviceable.
Our invention provides means whereby all of the advantages of theone-piece garment may be maintained with the advantage that when the trousers portion is worn new trousers may be substituted and attached to the jacket or jumper, thereby rendering the overalls more economical. The invention consists in the novel means of attaching the trousers to the waist band or skirt of the jumper or jacket and in the novel construction of the jacket which gives the two-piece garment the appearance of a one-piece garment without inconvenience to the. wearer.
The invention consists in certain novel parts and arrangements of parts which will be described hereinafter, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a front, perspective view of a garment constructed in accordance with our invention and showing a front view thereof.
Fig. 2 is a rear, perspective view of the garment applied, and i Fig. 3 is a detailed, perspective view of the lower portion of the jumper, showing the Application filed'February 21, 1921. Serial No. 446,541.

skirtand the protective flap to fitover the waistband.
Referring now to the drawings by numerals of reference-- The upper portion of the jumper 1 may be of any preferredform and may vbe provided with a collar and sleeves as shown or these may beeliminated. The lower portion of the jumper terminates in a skirt 2,
the trousers 4 as shown. The skirt 2 carries tabs 5 preferably provided with button holes 6 to receive the buttons 7. fastened to the trousers waistband 3 in any well The trousers are provided with the usual front vent 8 and side vents 9 which may be provided with suitable fastening devices. The rear portion of the trousers l-is provided with buttons 9 to be engaged by loop fasteners 10 carried by tabs 11 on the rear portion of the skirt 2, so that the fastening'device 9' may be conveniently detached from the rear portion of the waist band. The skirt portion 2 carries an overlapping flap 12 consisting of a band extending entirely around the jumper and preferably opened at the front as shown at 13, there being button holes 14 and 15 to permit the skirt tobe fastened to the trousers at the front portion thereof as shown in Fig. 1.
The jumper will preferably button down the front, the ends of the waist band being provided with butt0ns'16 and button holes 17, so that a snug fit may be provided. In applying the garment, the jumper will preferably be adjusted, first, with the front button and the flap or guard 12 unbuttoned. The trousers may then be drawn on and buttoned to the tabs 5 and the looped fasteners 10 with the vents closed in the usual manner. Then the guard flap 12 will be buttoned so that a symmetrical, neat appearing garment will be provided, the connections designed to fit inside the waistband 3 of betweenthe jumper and the trousers being The portion 18 may be separably detached from the loops 10 without disturbing the front portion thereof,-if desired, as will be clearly seen in Fig. 2. It will, therefore, be apparent that the device possesses appreciable utility and that whenever 'the trousers become worn so as to render them unfit for use, they may be detached from the jumper and jacket and a new one substituted.
What we claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is: V
1. Two-piece overalls consisting of a jumper and trousers, the trousers having a waist band, the jumper having a skirt to fit inside the waist band, a protective band connected to the jumper to fit over the waist band, tabs in the crotch between the skirt and the protective band, and means carried by the trousers to engage the tabs, the trousers, when attached, lying between the skirt and the protective band, the skirt and protective band extending entirely around the jumper.
2. Overalls comprising a jumper and trousers, the jumper having parallel fabrics, one of which is a skirt and the other a protective flap, a trousers-engaging means between the skirt and the flap, and means on the trousers to be engaged by the trousers-engaging means.
3. Overalls comprising. a jumper having a skirt portion and a protective flap normally parallel therewith, tabs between the skirt and the protective flap, trousers, and buttons on the trousers to engage the tabs.
4. A combination garment comprising a jumper and trousers, the trousers having a waist band, the jumper having a. skirt portion extending entirely around the lower edge of the jumper, a dust and dirt protecting flap, the upper edge of which is sewed to the jumper so that the flap will lie parallel with the skirt to form a receiving crotch for the trousers, the trousers having side vents and afront vent, and tabs carried by the jumper between the skirt portion and the flap, and engaging the trousers, the rear portion and the front portion of the waist band being separably detachable from the tabs carried by the skirt portion of the jumper.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
GEORGE E. KEOK. FRED K. CUDDY.
