6 Claims.
This invention relates to a childs garment.
An object of this invention is to provide a multi-use childs garment which is simple in construction so that it may be readily cleaned and ironed. The garment embodies a pair of trunks, a waist, suspenders, and a bib, and in one form all of these elements may be coupled together. In a second use or combination of the garment, the suspenders and bib may be left off, and in a third use or combination, the trunks may be combined with only the suspenders. A fourth use or combination may be formed by combining the trunks, bib and suspenders, omitting the waist, and in a fifth use the trunks may be used alone, being supported by a belt.
The garment may be made from any desired color combinations, or in solid colors, and the various elements making up the complete combination are detachably coupled together by means of buttons or other suitable fastening devices.
With the foregoing objects and others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel combination, construction and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein there is disclosed an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, modifications and variations may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. 1
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a detail front elevation of a childs garment constructed according to an embodiment of this invention,
Figure 2 is a detail rear elevation of the garment,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2,
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 66 of Figure 2,
Figure 7 is a fragmentary front elevation of the upper portion of the trunks, and
Figure 8 is a fragmentary front elevation of one of the suspender straps.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral I0 designates generally a pair of trunks and the numeral designates generally a waist or. shirt which is detachably coupled to the trunks ID. The trunks HJ are provided with pockets l2 at the front thereof and the trunks ID are also split I at the opposite sides and at the upper portions thereof, as indicated at I3. The split portions of the trunks l0 overlap each other and, preferably, the trunks at their upper edges are provided with a relatively deep hem M. The hem I4 is in two sections, including a front section l5 and a rear section I6. The front hem section I5 at the opposite ends thereof is extended to form oppositely extending tabs or tongues I1 which are formed with buttonholes IS. The underlying portion of the rear hem portion H5 is provided with buttons I9 which engage through the buttonholes I8. The trunks l0 are also provided with a plurality of belt loops 20 secured in horizontally spaced relation about the trunks for removably supporting a belt 2| of desired construction.
The trunks ID at the inner front side thereof has secured thereto an elongated strap 22 which is secured at its lower edge and opposite ends by stitching 23 to the inner side of the trunks l0 thereby forming an upwardly opening channel 24. The trunks ID at the rear thereof and on the inner side has secured thereto a pair of upwardly extending tabs 25 formed with buttonholes 26. The waist H at the front thereof is opened in the usual manner and is formed at the upper portion with lapels 2'! and an attached collar 28. The waist may also be provided with one or more pockets 29 at the front thereof, and in order to detachably couple the lower portion of the waist H to the upper portion of the trunks ID, the waist II is provided with a pair of front buttons 30 and a pair of rear buttons 3|. The front buttons 30 engage through buttonholes 32 formed in the channel forming strap 22 and the buttons 3| engage through the buttonholes 26 of the tabs 25.
A pair of suspender straps 33 and 34 which may be formed of fabric are provided at the opposite ends thereof with buttons 35 and 3B. The strap 33 at the reanthereof is formed with an elongated opening 37 and the strap 34 is adapted to be threaded through the opening 31, as shown in Figure 2, so that the suspender straps will be disposed in crossed relation at the rear of the garment. Each suspender strap is also provided at the forward end thereof adjacent the forward button 35 with a buttonhole 38. The buttonhole 38 is provided so that when the waist is used in combination with the suspenders, the buttons 30 carried by the waist may be extended not only through the buttonholes 32 but also through the buttonholes 38.
Preferably, the forward ends of the suspender straps when used in combination with the waist H are disposed in the'channel 24. It will of course be understood that if desired the forward ends of the suspender straps may be disposed on the rear side of the strap 22 between the waist and this strap. A bib 39 of substantially .truncated triangular configuration is adapted to be mounted on the forward side of the garment. The bib 39 is adapted to engage within the channel 24 as shown in Figure 6. The lower edges of the bib 39 have secured thereto buttons 40 which are adapted to engage through buttonholes 4| formed through the hem l4. The suspender strap 33 has secured thereto a button 42 which is adapted to engage through a buttonhole 43 formed in the upper portion of the bib 39 and suspender 34 has secured there-to a button 44 adapted to engage through a buttonhole 45 formed in the upper opposite edge of the bib 39. The bib 39 is adapted to protect the front of the waist II and may be worn with the trunks and the suspenders, or if desired, may be uncoupled therefrom.
The waist II is provided with front buttons 46 engaging through buttonholes 41 formed in the rear hem section l6, and the buttons 46 underlie the ends of the front hem section 15. The tabs l1 project beyond the buttons 46 so that when the garment is worn, the waist buttons will be concealed.
The garment hereinbefore described is capable of a number of different combinations, one combination or use being that the trunks in may be used as a sunsuit without the shirt, suspenders or bib. The shirt H may be coupled with the trunks l0, eliminating the suspenders and'bib or the suspenders may be attached and the bib left off. The complete assembly embodies the trunks, waist, suspenders and bib. If desired, the waist may be left off and the trunks supported by the suspenders, either with or without the bib 39. The waist II is here shown as having relatively short sleeves, but it will be understood that these sleeves may be of any desired length.
The garment hereinbefore described may be made in either solid colors with the various parts of the same color, or may be made of different colors so as to provide different color combinations.
