This invention relates to childs garments.
An object of this invention is to provide a garment in the form of a pair of trousers which is supported by a pair of suspenders detachably connected to the trousers, and a bib which is detachably connected to both the suspenders and the trousers.
Another object of this invention is to provide a three-way garment for a child which may be worn, first, as a pair of trousers supported by a belt; second, as a pair of trousers supported by a pair of suspenders; third, as a pair of trousers supported by a pair of suspenders with a bib detachably secured to the suspenders and trousers.
With the foregoing objects and others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein are shown embodiments of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a detailed front elevation, partly broken away of a pair of trousers constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective View broken away of the trousers.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary inner elevational view of the trousers.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals I9 and II designate generally the front and rear portions of a pair of trousers which are open at the opposite sides. The front II! at the opposite side portions thereof is formed with upwardly convergent edges I2, whereas the rear II is formed with substantially vertical outer edges I3. The inner side of the rea member I I is provided with buttons I4 adjacent the upper edge thereof which are engageable in buttonholes l5 formed in the front I0 so as to close the upper portions of the garment.
The trousers are provided with a hem I6 formed on the front Ill and also with a hem I'I formed on the upper edge of the rear II. A belt I8 is adapted to be extended through loops 3I= which are provided about the outer sides of the two hems I6 and IT. A pair of suspender straps I9 and 20 are adapted to be removably secured by a suitable fastening means to the rear hem I1 which forms the waistline, and the strap I9 is formed with an elongated slot 2I through which the strap 20 is adapted to be loosely extended so that in the rear the two straps I 9 and 20 will cross each other and may then be extended over the shoulders of the wearer.
The straps I9 and 29, at their front ends, are provided with one member 22 of a fastening means, which in the present instance is a button. A tab 23 is secured by stitching 24 to the rear side of the front hem I6 and extends upwardly, being substantially equal in height to the height or depth of the hem IS. The tab 23 is formed with a buttonhole 25 through which the button 22 is adapted to be extended from the rear of the tab 23.
Bib 25, which is substantially frustoconical in front elevation, is adapted to be detachably secured to the upper edge of the trousers, and in the present instance the bib 26 is provided on the forward side thereof with a pair'of buttons 21 forming one part of a fastening means, and the hem it is formed with a buttonhole 28 which is positioned inwardly from the outer buttonhole I5.
The buttonhole 28 is also spaced outwardly from the tab 23.
A second fastening element 29 in the form of a button is secured to each strap I9 and 20 at a point upwardly from the lower button 22, and is adapted to engage in a buttonhole 30 which is formed in the upper portion of the bib 26.
It, of course, will be understood that other fastening means than buttons and buttonholes may be used to secure the bib and straps to the trousers.
By securing the bib 26 to the straps I9 and 29, the bib will be held in operative position and through the use of the detachable fastening means 27 and 39, including the buttons 29, the bib may be optionally used with the trousers, whereas the trousers may also be optionally used either with or without the bib and the suspender straps I9 and 20.
What is claimed is:
A garment as described consisting of a waist portion having oppositely arranged fabric sections, said opposing sections being provided with a series of shoulder strap attaching means of which those on one section include button holes, a series of tabs having their inner ends secured permanently to the last-named section and having free portions arranged in line with said button holes and themselves formed with button holes, said shoulder straps having at their inner ends buttons buttoning into the button holes of the section having button holes, and also having buttons between their ends, and a bib having at its lower edge buttons buttoning into the button holes in said tabs and also provided above the buttons with button holes into which the last named buttons of the shoulder straps button.
