Description

Aug. 12, 1947. fl- I 2,425,635
DRESS Filed Oct. 16, 1946 Zinoentor Norris NITZbery" Patented Aug. 12, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DRESS Morris Nitzberg, Philadelphia, Pa. Application October 16, 1946, Serial No. 703,574
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to wearing apparel, and in particular to protectors for childrens dresses.
As every parent knows it is a difficult-problem to keep small children clean, especially at mealtimes when the child is apt to drop bits of food upon it dress.
Bibs of many kinds have been devised for infants, or small children, but no bib has to my knowledge been combined with a dress whereby the bib may be removed or replaced without altering the appearance of the dress.
Since the bosom, or front of the dress usually becomes soiled much more quickly than the remainder of the garment, I have created a replaceable front or bib for childrens dresses.
An object of the invention is to provide a garment protector which is worn upon the bosom of a dress and which will lengthen the time that the dress itself may be worn without laundering.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment front protector which when soiled may be readily removed for laundering and replaced with another.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment front protector which lends a decorative efiect to the garment and is hence acceptable to the wearer.
Another object of my invention is to provide a protector for the front of a dress which may be provided in various colors and designs whereby the same dress may be made to present different outward appearances and effects for various occasions.
Other objects of my invention are to provide an improved device of the character described, that is easily and economically produced, which is sturdy in construction, and which is highly eflicient in operation.
With the above and related objects in view, my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of parts, as will be more fully understood from the following description, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a view of a garment protector of my invention as actually used upon'a garment.
Fig. 2 shows the removal of the protector for the garment.
Fig. 3 shows the protector detached from the garment.
Referring now to the drawing, wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts, I show a dress, generally designated as A, to which a bib member, generally designated as B, is detachably aflixed. The bib member is roughly of triangular outline, and consists of one or more thicknesses of fabric. The apex ID of the triangle is truncated and extends downwardly to the waist. The side opposite the apex of the bib member is rounded inwardly, so as to form a neckline 20. The bib member is afiixed to the dress by means of buttonholes 14 which are formed in all three corners of the bib. These buttonholes l4 engage buttons l2, which are attached to the dress or garment A on both shoulders 22, and at the waist front. Although the fastening means shown in the drawings are buttons, they may alternatively be snap fasteners.
The bib member may be provided with embroidery, lace, ruflles, and stitching, and may be made in colors harmonizing or contrasting with the main garment as desired. A particular arrangement that is contemplated is to provide in the bib a reproduction of the pattern and color of the garment bosom which the bib overlies, as shown in Fig. 3.
In use, the bib member B is affixed to the main garment A, such as a dress, by means of the fasteners provided near the three corners of the bib member, and the fasteners afiixed to the shoulders and waist front of the main garment A. When the bib warrants replacement, it is detached for laundering, and a new bib member substituted therefor. Alternatively, the dress may be worn without the bib member, as shown in Fig. 3.
Although my invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as being illustrative rather than limiting, since the invention may be variously embodied, and the scope of the inventionis to be determined as claimed.
I claim as my invention:
A combination dress and bosom protector comprising a dress having a pair of shoulders, a waist front having a waistline, a neck opening, a plurality of buttons fastened upon said dress adjacent the shoulders thereof and above the front of said waistline, a detachable bib member, a plurality of complementary button holes in said bib which button holes coact with said buttons, said bib member being of a general triangular configuration having a neckline formed in one side of said bib substantially of the same configuration as the neckline of said dress whereby the neckline of the bib substantially overlaps the neckline of said dress, and one end of said bib extending adjacent to the waistline of said dress whereby said last named end may be detachably fastened to said waist front, whereby said bib 3 7 member may be quickly afiixed to or quickly TEN detached from the bosom of said dress.
