UNETED STATES PATENT 0FFlE.
PAUL G. WRIGHT, OF SAN FRANCISCO, GALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-THIRD TU JOSEPH B. HAFFEN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
GARMENT.
Application filed August 1, 1923.
To all whom it'may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAUL Gr. RIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments and has for its principal object the provision of a novel type of garment structure embody ing in its construction a flat either attached or formed integral with the leg of the garment adapted to be spirally wrapped about and readily adjusted to fit any size calf and ankle.
A further object of this invention is to produce a garment structure at a minimum expense and without waste of the goods, and at the same time eliminate the plurality of eyelets and buttons which are so annoying and cumbersome in garments of the average style.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment in its completed state, showing the flap forming a part of my invention, in an open position on the right leg and the flap in a closed position on the left leg.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary detail of a pants leg showing the flap in an open position,
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the flap in a closed position; and
Figure 4. is a fragmentary detail of a modified form of the invention showingthe flap in a closed position.
In the construction of garments known as riding breeches, outing breeches and military breeches, great annoyance has been experienced because of the unnecessary thickness of tongues and extra seams that occur in these garments and also in the use of eyelets, laces and buttons which require considerable time to adjust the same and furthermore because of the bulkiness existing around the leg after the many thicknesses of cloth, seam and laces of the garment have been adjusted.
In devising this garment structure I have endeavored to overcome these annoyances Serial No. 655,081.
and inconveniences and have devised a garment structure which can'be instantly adjusted and then removed in a minimum amount of time and assures to the wearer a construction which is most comfortable, neat in appearance when worn under putties or wrapped leggings and a construction which is strong and durable.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 indicates the right leg or pants portion of the garment, while the numeral 6 designates the left leg or pants portion. The usual outside and inside seams are inclicated by the numerals 7 and 8 and to each outside seam I propose to secure a loop 9 which has detachably secured thereto a cord or lace 10.
As shown to advantage in Figure 1, I have attached to the leg portion 5, preferably by sewing, a substantially triangular flap 11 which has provided in its lower extremity an eyelet 12, which is adapted to receive therein the lace 10.
In the modified form of the invention as disclosed to advantage in Figure 1, the flap instead of being sewed to the leg portion 5 is integrally formed therewith, that is, made a part thereof and I thus eliminate any necessity of sewing.
In practise, when the garment is being ad justed, the flap 11 is spirally wrapped about the rear of the calf of the wearer and made to assume the position shown in dotted lines in the pants portion 6 of Figure 1. The lace is then trained through the eyelet and a comfortable fitting of the lower extremity of the pants leg is obtained about the calf and leg of the wearer. When it is desired to remove the garment it is only necessary to unfasten the lace from the eyelet and the lower portion of the pants leg will assume the position shown to advantage in Figure 1, (see pants portion 5), and the garment may be readily removed.
While I have shown the flap in the preferred form sewed on the inside seam. it is obvious that the said flap can likewise be sewed on the outside seam and extend around the calf towards the inside seam and furthermore, can be readily secured on any part of the leg portion from the knee to the bottom thereof.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be re sorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In a garment structure, the combination with a leg portion provided with an inside seam and an outside seam, and a lace holdingloop secured to the outside seam at a point remote from the extremity of the leg portion, of a substantially triangular flap having its inner marginal edge secured to the inside seam and formed adjacent the lower extremity ofthe, pants portion and positioned so that its greatest area extends from the front of the leg portion around the calf of the wearers leg and terminates in a single narrow attaching end, and an eyelet formed in proximity to the narrow attaching end of the flap and adapted to receive the lace carried by the lace holding loops.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PAUL G. WRIGHT.
