To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MORRIS SOBELMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Convertible Middy Blouses, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to garments and more particularly to blouses of the middy yp The object of the invention is to provide a blouse convertible for use either as a middy or as a belted blouse.

Another object is to provide a blouse of this character which has the belt made as a part thereof and which is concealed when the garment is worn loose as a middy.

Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown, described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the blouse shown applied and in use as a middy.

Fig. 2 is a similar view with the upper portion broken off showing, it for use as a belted blouse with one of the flaps unfastened.

Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the blouse with both flaps shown unfastened, and with the belted portion turned up ready to be secured by the flaps, the upper portion of the blouse being broken away for convenience in illustration.

In the embodiment illustrated, a middy blouse 1, the body portion of which is of ordinary construction, is shown having seamed to the lower part of its inner face a facing 2 which is designed to be folded outward and upward as shown in Fig. 3, to give the appearance of a belt when'secured in such position by means presently to be described. The facing is secured by a row of stitching 4 positioned above the lower edge of the body portion so that when the blouse is worn as a middy as shown in Fig. 1, it will have the appearance of a hem. The facing 2 is composed of a front strip 5 and a rear strip 6. The strip 5 is of a length corresponding to the width of the front of the blouse and the strip 6 is of a length greater than the width of the back of the blouse whereby the end terminals of said strip will project to form tabs or flaps 7,

which are faced as shown at 8 and provided with pointed ends. The tabs 7 have buttonholes 9 formed therein centrally thereof. The facings 8 of the tabs 7 have their inner ends stitched to the inner ends of the front strip 5, as shown at 8 at points opposite the under arm seams 1 which connect the front and rear portions of the blouse body.

Secured to the front strip 5 at points spaced longitudinally from each other and from the seams 8 are two buttons 10 de signed to cooperate with the buttonholes 9 for contracting the belt formed by the strips 5 and 6 and further for securing the belt 2 in such contracted position so as to give the blouse the appearance of a waist, as shown in Figure 4. Cooperative engagement be tween the buttons 10 and the tabs 71 through the medium of the buttonholes '9, is not had until after the lower part of the body portion of the blouse has been folded upwardly against the outer face of said body portion and whereby the strips 5 and 6 will be exposed exteriorly of the body portion.

When the blouse is to 'be worn as a loose middy as shown in Fig. 1, the lower part of the body portion which is faced with the strips 5 and 6 is turned downward with the flaps 7 extending forwardly and the strips and flaps are completely concealed from view. When it is to be worn as a waist or belted in blouse as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the facing 2 is turned up into the position shown in Fig. 3 and then the front portion of the blouse is folded as shown at 11 in Fig. 6 and the buttonholes 9 engaged with the buttons 10 thereby presenting the appearance of a belt as is shown clearly in Fig. 4, the fullness of the blouse body being held in by the facing 2 which constitutes the belt.

While the belt 2 is shown in Fig. 4 arranged at the waist line of the wearer, obviously it may be worn lower down according to the length of the blouse body and the flaps or tabs 7.

From the above description, it will be obvious that this convertible middy blouse may be quickly changed from one form to the other by merely buttoning or unbuttoning the flaps 7 and folding upwardly or turning down the face portion of the blouse.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction Without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

I claim 1. In a convertible middy blouse a body portion, a pair of front and rear belt forming strips, one of said strips of greater length than the other, said strips arranged relatively to each other whereby the end terminal portions of the longer strip will project beyond the end termini of the shorter strip to provide a pair of tabs, means for securing that strip of less length throughout to the inner face of said body portion at the lower part thereof, means for securing the other of said strips intermediate its ends to the inner face of said body portion at the lower part thereof and further to the ends of said short strip, and means for connecting said tabs to the short strip whereby the lower part of said body portion when turned upwardly will be gathered to give a waistlike appearance to the blouse.

In a convertible middy blouse a body portion, a pair of front and rear belt forming strips, one of said strips of greater length than the other, said strips arranged relatively to each other whereby the end terminal portions of the longer strip will project beyond the end termini of the shorter strip to provide a pair of tabs, means for securing that strip of less length throughout to the inner face of said body portion at the lower part thereof, means for securing the other'of said strips intermediate its ends to the inner face of said body portion-at the lower part thereof and further to the ends of said short strip, means for connecting said tabs to the short strip whereby the lower part of said body portion when turned upwardly will be gathered to give a Waist-like appearance to the blouse, and a facing for each of said tabs.

In a convertible middy blouse a body portion, a pair of front and rear belt forming strips, one of said strips being of greater, length than the other, said strips arranged relatively to each other whereby the end terminal portions of the longer strip will project beyond the end termini of the shorter strip to provide a pair of tabs, means for securing that strip of less length throughout to the front of the inner face of said body at the lower part thereof, means for securing the other of said strips intermediate its ends to the rear of the inner face of said body portion at the lower part thereof and further to the ends of the said short strip, and means connecting said tabs to said short strip whereby the lower part of said body portion when turned upwardly will be gathered to give a waist-like appearance to the blouse.

4. Ina convertible middy blouse a body portion, a pair of front and rear belt forming strips, one of said strips being of greater length than the other, said strips arranged relatively to each other whereby the end terminal portions of the longer strip will project beyond the end termini of the shorter strip to provide a pair oftabs, means for securing that strip of less length throughout to the front of the inner face of said body at the lower part thereof, means for securing the other of said strips intermediate its ends to the rear of the inner face of said body portion at the lower part thereof and further to the ends of the said short strip, means connecting said tabs to said short strip whereby the lower part of said body portion when turned upwardly will be gathered to give a waist-like appearance to the blouse, and a facing for each of said tabs.
