CROTCH PROTECTOR FOR TROUSERS Filed Dec. 1'7, 1947 INVENTOR- Monms T RNER Patented Mar. 6, 1951 umrro s'r Tes PATE NT ormer:
QBQ CH R T R: FTBOUSER Morris Turner, New York, N; Y. I Application December 17, 1947, Serial No. 792,156
1 Claim. (01,, 2 31,): V
This invention relates to aforotch protector for a garment suchas a pair of trousers. Itis well known that, becauseof the back and forth movements of theJegs when walking, cloth at a crotch ina a garment uchv as a a r' trousers is subject to severe frictional wear as the opposed faces of the. cloth at the crotch move alternatell; acrQ s each other, rapidly wearing 'a; holein each trouser leg: This" condition is aggravated ifthe cloth becomes stained and injured-due to body secretions and excretions.
It is. an object of the present invention to pro. r de c otch or. which.Wi11- i atefr ti'ona'l wear of the "cl'oth'of' a garment, such as a pair of trousers, at the crotch, and which will prevent staining of the cloth of the crotch by perspiration, urine and other body secretions and excretions.
A further object is to provide a crotch protector as aforesaid which is made of a waterproof fabric.
A further object is to provide a crotch protector as aforesaid formed of two shields sewn together along the crotch line of the trousers, each of the shields being formed of two triangular wings, integral along one edge and sewn along the other edges.
For further comprehension of the invention,
' and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a view of a waterproof shield in folded position before sewing, which shield forms part of the crotch protector of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a reduced view of the shield of Fig. 1 unfolded.
' Fig. 3 is a reduced view of the finished crotch protector.
Fig. 4 is a reduced side view of the protector.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary front view of a pair of trousers with the crotch protector attached.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view of a portion of the trousers, turned inside out, showing the crotch protector.
Fig. 7 is a. side view of the trousers, with one legicut partially away, showing the crotch protector.
' The crotch protector is indicated generally by the reference numeral Ill. It is formed of two trjanguIar shields H (see Fig. 1), each of which isf'formed of a blank of waterproof fabric l2 (see human crotch to Fig 2);, The blank I 2 includes two wings. [3 which are foldable over each other along the straight center line M. The two edges 15 are tucked in and sewn and the. two edges 15- are tucked and: sewn together with the twoedges; [6 of: another shield to form the; protector of Fig. 3,
The protector thus consistsof thetwo shields I (=see Fig. 3);, sewn together at the edges I5, each shield being of double thickness and having a space between its two walls. The fabric, as aforesaid, is waterproof and this feature, togetherwith the double, walls, prevents any passage of staining; body secretions or excretions. from the protector is attached in the trousers as viewed in Figs. 5-7.
In Fig. '7, the trousers I! are shown fragmentarily. The left leg I8 is cut away but the right leg I9 is not cut away. Thus the crotch portion of the leg I8 is visible, the interior surface, the surface engaging the body, being shown. The crotch protector I 0 is disposed with the seam formed by the edges l6 in line with the seam 20 of the trousers, seam 20 being the full crotch seam connecting with the fly, and with the sewed edges IS in line with the inside vertical pants leg seam 2|, the folded edge l4 being at the front and runnin up to the fly.
The crotch protector I0 is tacked to the trousers at each of its points 22. Any man or woman, or man in the Army or Navy, can tack this protector H1 in his or her trousers by a few stitches at the points 22. The edges l6 have been cut in a curve to follow the curvature of the seam 20 and this bias assures a neat fit of the protector in the trouser crotch. The protector, since it is only tacked into the trousers, can be removed as often as desired for washing. Since it is entirely of fabric, tacking by sewing is feasible and it is not necessary to resort to safety pins, or buttons and button holes.
Referring to Fig. 6, in which view the trousers have been turned inside out, it will be seen that the protector is attached at the front well up on the flap of the fly, bringing the protector well forward to provide maximum protection. At its other points 22, it is connected on the seams of the trousers. Thus, at no point is the protector sewed directly to the part of the trousers which is visible from the outside. The tacking stitches are thus invisible and if a, hole is torn by catching the protector on a closethook or something, the trousers themselves will not be damaged, since the hole will be in the loose material of the trousers seam.
the trouser crotch, when. theopening and the bottommost point Since the edges 16 are curved, when they are sewn together they will not lie flat but if the entire protector is laid on a flat surface, the front and rear ends of the edges IE will be above the plane of the flat surface. This can be envisioned from Fig. 4 wherein the protector is in folded position similar to its position in Fig. '7, that is, in its operative position. It will be seen that the edge 15 is substantially vertical since it will follow the trouser leg seam. The folded edge l4 stays substantially straight, although of course, it will bend with the trousers. The edge [6 follows the crotch line, being lowest at a point between its ends with its front the highest so that it can reach up onto the fly. Edges l5 are inclined and not in line due to the bias, see Fig. 3.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described claim as new, and desire States Letters Patent is:
A crotch protector for mounting within a pair of trousers between the bottom end of the fly in the crotch, comprising a pair of adjacent shields for depending into the legs of the trousers on opposite sides of the crotch; each of said shields being formed of a blank of material substantially diamondmy invention, what I to secure by United stitched together and shaped and each of which is wider than it is long, said blanks being folded in half along their lengths forming flattened substantially isoscelesshaped triangles having long folded hypotenuse side's, superimposed free legs and reentrantly c vled legs between the free ends of said hypotenus sides and said free legs, and stitches securing 'f ;together the free legs, said reentrantly curved legs being. shaped to the curvature of the trousers between the bottom end of the fly and the-lowermost point of the crotch and the reentrantly curved legs of said pair of shields being adapted to be nested in that curved portion of the trousers with said folded hypotenuse sides extended downward from the bottom end of the fly opening and said stitched together free legs extended downward from the lowermost point of the crotch.
