PATENT UFFICE.
FRANK u, HUNTER., or LI'rrrz, PENNSYLVANIA 'UNDERGENT 'Application le. January 26, 1931. vSerial No. 51i,420.
IThis invention relates to improvements in *under-garments, and more especially to a ladys'undergarment having an outer facing of genuine silk or rayon for the sake of appearance, but lined with a relatively coarse textile fabric for the purpose of warmth.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an undergarnient made of silk or rayon fabric but lined with cotton or cotton l@ and wool fabric or the like; the facing cloth and the lining being so connected as not to detract from the appearance of the garment or to betray the fact that it is lined to provide a warmer garment. v
With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter de.
o purpose of illustration.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the sama Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of a ydetail on the line -'eof Fig. l..
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of a detail on the line 4--4 of Fig. l.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of a detail on the line 5-5 of Fi 2..v
Referring to t e drawings, it will be noted that the facing or outer part of the garment is made of two leg portions 6 and 7, and a triangular crotch portion 8, formed of genuine silk or rayon. The lining is formed of like leg portions 9, but preferably made of cotton or cotton and wool fabric or the like, and a crotch portion similar to the crotch portion 8, which may be made of some soft material, such as silk or rayon fabric, or I may employ cotton or cotton and wool fabric, or the like;
At the lines where the facing sections are sewed together, they are also sewed to` the with a warm fabric.
lining sections as shown in Fig. 3; the edges of the fabric being turned inwardly and being connected together by stitching l0.,
rll`he upper edges of the facing and lining fabrics are folded over as at l1 in Fig. 5, and between 'these folded over edges, the lower edge of an elastic beltV l2 is inserted, and sewed to the facing and lining by stitching i3. However, it will be understood that the elastic belt l2 may be enclosed'within the folds of the upper edges of the inner and outer fabrics in the same mannen as illustrated in Figa for securing the elastic/band in the ends of the leg portions, now to be described. y
The leg opening portions of the facing and lining are turned inwardly and doubled over as indicated at 14 in Fig. 4, and are sewed together by two lines of threads l5. ln the annular pocket 16 thus formed, an elastic band 17 is enclosed for the purpose of contracting the leg opening. However it will beunderstood that the elastic band l? may be attached to the leg opening portions in the manner illustrated in Fig. 5 for securing the elastic belt l2.
The lining is preferably of the saine color as the facing, and this Vwill enhance the general appearance ofthe garment and tend to conceal the fact that the garment is lined It will be understood that the facing may be of any' suitable textile fabric presenting the pleasing appearance `desired by the wearer, while the lining may be of any suitable fabric which will be comfortable and increase the warmth of the garment.V
From the 'foregoing it is believed that the construction and advantages of theinvention will be readily understood` by those skilled in the art, and it is apparent that changes may be made in the details disclosed,
without department from the spirit of the invention, as expressed in the claims.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' .dn undergarment formed of le sections and acrotch section made of silk fa ric com-l prising the facing, and a linin for the undergarment formed of relative ywarm soft textile material and made in sections corresponding to the sections of the facingl/Eabric, the facing sections and the lining sections ,being sewed together along seam lines ex` .5 tendlng medially from the top portion of the front to the top portion of the rear of the undergarment, the edges of the facin fabric being folded inwardly toward the ining fabric and the edges of the lining fabric lo being folded inwardly toward the facing fabrlc along said seam lines, and the folded edge portions of the facing and lining fabrics of adjacent sections being in abutting relation to one another alon' said seam lines. ,5 FRANK il.' HUNTER.
