Abstract

Wearing Apparel comprising a conventional pair of pants or trousers provided with a modified seat or rear portion thereof. The seat of the trousers is provided with apertures, openings or cutout portions therein, thereby exposing the wearer''s skin or garment disposed beneath the trousers. Preferably, the cutout portions are symmetrical with respect to the rear trouser seam and display a particular design. A binding is preferably sewn to the edges of the cutout portion to provide a finished appearance and strengthen same. Additionally, an applique may be sewn to the seat between the pair of openings to complete the design, wherein the applique strengthens the rear trouser seam. In a modified form, a cover member is detachably connected to the seat of the trousers to cover the cutout portions.

WEARING APPAREL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to wearing apparel, and more particularly, to a pair of trousers provided with cutout portions in the seat thereof, thereby exposing the wearers skin or garment disposed beneath the trousers.

It is well known in the art to permanently attach patches or appliques to trousers, on any particular por- 1 tion thereof. These patches may be applied to cover worn portions or spots in the trousers, or the appliques may be applied to provide a particular design. However, in each case, the patches or appliques cannot be easily removed once they are attached to the trousers, being either sewn or adhesively cemented thereon.

Many attempts have been made in the prior art to color coordinate a blouse or shirt with a pair of trousers. However, because the blouse and trousers are normally fabricated of different materials, problems arise in the laundry or dry-cleaning of these articles. Additionally, the trousers can only be worn with the particular coordinated shirt, and therefore, is only effective for the life of one of these articles. It is noted that the matching and coordinating of these articles during the manufacture thereof increase the cost of these articles.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention comprises wearing apparel in the form of a pair of pants or trousers provided with apertures, openings or cutout portions in the seat of the trousers to expose the wearers skin or garment disposed beneath the trousers. The cutout portions are symmetrically disposed on both sides of the rear trouser seam to display a particular design. Binding mate rial is sewn to the edges of the cutout portions to strengthen same and provide a finished appearance. Preferably, an applique is sewn to the seat over the rear trouser seam to strengthen same and to complete the particular design. Additionally, in a modified form, a cover member of a particular fabric is detachably connected by conventional securing means to the seat of the trousers to cover the cutout portions.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an improved pair of trousers which overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of trousers having cutout portions in the seat thereof to expose the wearers skin or garment disposed beneath the trousers.

A further object of this invention is to provide a pair of trousers that can be easily produced and has a relatively long trouble-free life.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a pair of trousers which can be easily color coordinated with a shirt or blouse, wherein the shirt or blouse will be exposed through the cutout portions in the seat of the trousers.

Yet another object of this invention is to provide a cover member which can be detachably connected to the seat of the trousers to cover the cutout portions.

And yet another object of this invention is to provide a pair of trousers provided with an applique disposed over the rear trouser seam to strengthen same.

And still yet another object of this invention is to provide a pair of trousers that will have a longer life expectancy than the conventional pair of trousers.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Having in mind the above and other objects that will be evident from an understanding of this disclosure, the invention comprises the devices, combinations and arrangements of parts as illustrated in the presently pre- 0 ferred embodiments of the invention which are hereinafter set forth in such detail as to enable those skilled in the art readily to understand the function, operation, construction and advantages of it, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 illustrates a conventional pair of pants or trousers 10 provided witha front portion 12 and a rear portion 14. A conventional seam l6 joins the front portion 12, and a conventional seam l8 joins the rear portion 14. A conventional belt 20 and belt loops 22, which are attached to the trousers 10, are also shown. The

In accordance with the present invention, the seat or rear portion 28 of trousers 10 has been modified to include a pair of apertures, openings or cutout portions 30. The cutout portions 30 may be in any desired shape. Preferably, the cutout portions 30 are symmetrical with respect to the rear trouser seam 18 or center of the seat 28, being disposed below the waist portion and above the

Binding fabric or trim 32 are secured by conventional means, such as by sewing, to the edges of the cutout portions 30 as shown in FIG. 2, to strengthen these edges and to provide a finished appearance. For added strength, an additional binding fabric or trim 34 may be attached by conventional means across the openings 30, which also add to the appearance thereof.

An applique 36 is secured to the trouser seat 28 at the center thereof, over the rear trouser seam 18 by conventional securing means, such as sewing or a conventional adhesive. The applique 36 performs two functions. One function is to strengthen the seam 18 which is normally under great stresses when a person is bending or sitting. The second function is to complete the preferred design, which in the present embodiment is that of a butterfly. The cutout portions 30 form the wings of the butterfly, and the applique 36 form the butterfly body.

As is obvious from the above, the openings 30 may either expose the wearers skin, or may expose the garment disposed beneath the trousers, such as a blouse or shirt which is usually tucked into the trousers. In the present embodiment, the butterfly wings will be the same color as the blouse or shirt, as seen through the opening 30, thereby color coordinating the blouse or shirt to the trousers 10. Obviously, this will be true of any shirt or blouse worn by the wearer with the bottom portions thereof tucked into the trousers 10. Accordingly, the trousers 10 can outlive the normal lifespan of any one particular shirt or blouse. Additionally, there is no need to worry about the material of the shirt or blouse when cleaning the trousers 10, in view of the fact that the trousers 10 is separate and distinct therefrom.

FIG. 3 discloses a second embodiment of the present invention showing a pair of trousers 40. Similar to trousers 10, the seat portion 42 of trousers 40 is provided with cutout portions 44, which may or may not be provided with binding or trim as mentioned above, depending upon the desired design or effect. The seat area 42 is provided with conventional snap fasteners 46 spaced apart thereon for detachably receiving a cover member, described hereinafter below.

FIG. 4 illustrates a cover member 48 detachably connected to the seat portion 42. The cover member 48 may be made of any desired material or fabric, and may be of any shape desired. The cover member 48 is provided with conventional snap fasteners 50 which correspond to and are associated with the snap fasteners 46 of the trousers to detachably secure the cover member 48 to the trouser seat 42.

FIGS. and 6 disclose a second cover member 52, similar to cover member 48, detachably connected to the trouser seat 42. Cover member 52 is provided with conventional fasteners 54 for association with the trouser fastening members 46 in the same method as mentioned above. The covering member 52 is quilted in a conventional manner, as best shown in cross section in FIG. 6. The cover member 52 includes three superposed fabrics or

56, 58 and 60, which are stitched together near their end portions by stitching 62. Obviously, either fabric 56 or fabric 60 may be the outer exposed surface, wherein these outer surfaces may be different colors or of different design to afford the wearer flexibility in his appearance. Additionally, cover member 62 acts as a pad or cushion for the wearer when in the sitting'position to afford comfort for him.

FIG. 7 discloses a cover member 64 similar to cover member 52. Cover member 64 is provided with conventional snap fasteners 66 used in the same manner as discussed above. Additionally, cover member 64 is provided with a quilted area 68, rather than being quilted throughout as cover member 52. Obviously, the quilted area 68 may be in any shape or form, wherein the color or design thereon may be made as desired.

Numerous alterations of the structure herein disclosed will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art. However, it is to be understood that the present disclosure relates to preferred embodiments of the invention which is for the purpose of illustration only and not to be construed as a limitation of the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. Wearing apparel comprising a pair of trousers, said trousers including front and rear portions defining a waist portion and a pair of trouser leg members, said rear portion being provided with a seat portion disposed between said waist portion and said leg members, said seat portion having a centrally located seam extending from said waist portion to said leg members, said seat portion including means for exposing to view parts of an item which is disposed in said trousers between said front and rear portions, said exposing means including at least first and second apertures in said seat portion, each of said apertures extending from an outer surface of said rear portion to an inner surface of said rear portion to provide visibility therethrough, said first aperture being on one side of said seam, said second aperture being on an opposite side of said seam, edges of each of said first and second apertures being provided with binding fabric means disposed around said edges, and applique means secured to said seat portion over said seam to strengthen said seam and to complete a preferred design associated with said first and second apertures.

2. Wearing apparel according to claim 1, wherein said first and second apertures are symmetrical with respect to said seam.

3. Wearing apparel according to claim 1, wherein a trim member is attached across each of said first and second apertures for additional strength.

4. Wearing apparel according to claim 3, wherein said first and second apertures are symmetrical with respect to said applique means.

5. Wearing apparel according to claim 1, wherein said seat portion is provided with first securing means, cover means for connecting to said outer surface of said rear portion for covering said apertures in said seat portion, said cover means being provided with second securing means corresponding to and associated with said first securing means of said seat portion for detachably securing said cover means to said seat portion.

6. Wearing apparel according to claim 5, wherein said first and second securing means are snap fasteners.

1. Wearing apparel comprising a pair of trousers, said trousers including front and rear portions defining a waist portion and a pair of trouser leg members, said rear portion being provided with a seat portion disposed between said waist portion and said leg members, said seat portion having a centrally located seam extending from said waist portion to said leg members, said seat portion including means for exposing to view parts of an item which is disposed in said trousers between said front and rear portions, said exposing means including at least first and second apertures in said seat portion, each of said apertures extending from an outer surface of said rear portion to an inner surface of said rear portion to provide visibility therethrough, said first aperture being on one side of said seam, said second aperture being on an opposite side of said seam, edges of each of said first and second apertures being provided with binding fabric means disposeD around said edges, and applique means secured to said seat portion over said seam to strengthen said seam and to complete a preferred design associated with said first and second apertures.

7. Wearing apparel according to claim 5, wherein at least a part of said cover means is quilted.
