SUMMER GARIVIENT FOR MEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2, 1915.
Application filed April 1, 1914. Serial No. 828,690.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR MnLTsNnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Summer Garments for Men; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
rlhis invention has reference to a novel construction of summer garment for men; and the invention relates, more particularly,
to a shirt having means combined therewith to give the appearance of a coat or jacket.
rllhe invention has for its principal object to provide a novel construction of summer garment for men, which is cool and comfortable and yet gives the wearer a dressy and conventional appearance; and to this end the invention provides a novel combined garment which is as cool and comfortable as a soft or neglige shirt and yet which has the appearance of a coat or jacket.
The invention therefore consists in the novel construction of summer garment for men having a coat effect or appearance hereinafter' set forth; and, furthermore, the invention consists in the several novel arrangements and combinations of the various parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be hereinafter more fully described, and then finally embodied in the claim, which forms part of this specification.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front View of the novel summer garment for men made according to and embodying the principles of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a back or rear view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side view of the same. Fig. f1 is a front view of a novel coat section detached from the body of the garment. Fig. 5 is a front view of a slightly modified construction of my novel summer garment for men, still embodying, however, the principles of my invention; and Fig. 6 is a front view of the body of the garment comprising said modified construction from which the coat section has been removed.
' of the garment.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the hereinabove described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive of said drawings, the reference character 7 indicates the complete novel summer garment for men, embodying the principles of my present invention, the same comprising a main body S in the form of a shirt, having the collar-band 9, sleeves 10 and skirts or tails 11. This body portion 8 is preferably made of some light weight material or fabric, in sober color effect, although the color and ornamental configuration or design may, of course, be modified in many respects to meet the desires and tastes of various wearers.
The reference character 12 indicates a coat-section for attachment to said mam body 8, the same comprising a pair of front panels 13 provided with and joined at their upper ends with a neck-piece 111 having a collar portion 15, terminating, at the upper inner marginal edges of said front panels 13, in lapels 16. The meeting marginal edges of said front panels 13 are provided, respectively, with buttonholes 17 and buttons 18, whereby said front panels 13 may be buttoned together. Secured to the lower ends of said front panels 13 by stitching, or any other suitable fastening means, is a skirt portion 19 which extends around the waist-line of the garment and depends therefrom. Said coat-section 12 thus constructed is preferably made of the same material, color and design of the main body 8 of the garment, and is secured over the `main body 8 of the garment so that said front-panels 13 extend down the front of said main body 8, as shown in the drawings. The said coatsection is detachably connected to said main body 8, so that the same may be removed when it is desired to wash the main body The means for thus securing said coat-section 12 to said main-body 8 may comprise hooks and eyes, snap-fasteners, or buttons. Preferably l use hooks and eyes, the hooks 20 being secured to the inner sides of the outer marginal edges of said front panels 13, the lower marginal edges of said neck-piece 111, and the upper marginal edges of the skirt portion 19. The eyes 21 are secured in proper corresponding positions upon the main body 8 of the garment. Vhen the coat-section 12 has thus been secured to the main body 8, and the garment is put on by the wearer, the tails 11 of the main body 8 are inserted within the trousers (which are indicated at 22 by the dotted or broken lines), but since the skirt portion 19 of the coat section 12 is secured to the main body 8 of the garment high on the waist line, and above the normal position of the upper marginal edge of the trousers, the said'skirt-portion 19 depends from the waist line of the garment and hangs over or exteriorly around the waist of the trousers giving the appearance of the skirt of an ordinary coat.
As will be apparent from an inspection of the drawings, the garment when worn has theappearance of a coat or jacket, and yet, except at the` front panels, there is only one thickness of material, the garment is as cool and comfortable as an ordinary shirt with the wearers coat removed.
Referring now more particularly to Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings, I have illustrated a .garmentembodying the principles ofmy present invention, but slightly modiied in some respects. In this construction the main-body 8 is provided with removable bosom-panels 23, the front of the main body 8 being cut away to provide longitudinally extending marginal edges 24: to which the outer marginal edges of said bosom-panels 23 are detachably secured by means of hooks and eyes 25, or any other suitable fastening means. The coat-section 12, and the details and manner of attachment' of the same, are the same as already hereinabove described.
, Since the main-body 8 and coat-section 12 are made ofthe same material and color, it is possible in this modified construction, t0 provide the bosom-panels 23 in any desired fancy shirting material thus giving to the garment at the part thereof exposed between the lapels and panels of the coatsection 12, the appearance of a fancy neglige or other shirt, while retaining the matched condition of the rest of the main body of the garment and said coat-section,
Copies of this patent may be obtanedfor five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, 1
thus heightening the two piece coat and A summer garment for men comprisingl a main body having sleeves, a collar-band, and tails adapted to be retained within the trousers of the wearer; and a coat section detachably connected vwith said main body comprising a pair of front panels, a neckl portion interconnecting the upper ends of said front panels, a'collar and lapels connected with said neck-portion and said front panels, the meeting marginal edges of said front panels being provided respectively with button-holes and buttons, and a skirtportion interconnecting the lower portions of said front panels adapted to extend around the waist of the wearer and depend from said main body exteriorly of the tron-k sers of the wearer; and fastening means secured to the vunder sides of the outer marginal edges of said front panels, the outer marginal edges of said neck-portion and the upper marginal edges 'of said skirt-portion of said coat section, and holding means secured to said main body with vwhich said fastening means maybe engaged.
In testimony, that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of March, 1914.
