Be it known that I, VILLIAM M. SPILMAN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at McLain, in the county of Green and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Combination Garments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to wearing apparel, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a combination coat and shirt, which is so constructed that the weight of the improved combined garment will not be much more than the weight of an ordinary shirt or coat, so that a person will be able to wear a coat during the warm weather with comfort and appear fully dressed for evening functions or other affairs where ladies are present.

Another object of the invention is to provide a shirt attachment for coats which are made of light material, such as cool cloth, duck, palm beach, pongee or the like, which require frequent laundering, the shirt being permanently attached to the coat so that the parts of the garment maybe laundered at the same time as a complete unit.

A further object of the invention is to provide a shirt coat, which will present a neat and dressy appearance to the eye so as to please the aesthetic taste, the shirt portion being constructed and arranged in such a manner in relation to the coat portion, that the device will give the same benefit to the wearer ywithout any annoyance as if an ordinary shirt was worn, without the additional weight thereof.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this speciiication, in which drawings:

Figure 1 is an elevation looking into the garment, the garment being cut at the shoulder and spread open, so as to clearly show the construction thereof.

Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section through the improved garment.

Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2 and illustrating the guide for the support for the trousers or any preferred manner and in accordl ance with any preferred style and can be made of any material, although a light weight material, such as pongee, palm beach, cool cloth or the like is preferred, as these materials have to be more or less frequently laundered. f

The shirt portion C can be made out of any desired shirting material, such as silk, madres or the like, and includes the front port-ion 10, the rear portion 11, and the' neck portion and shoulder portion 12. v

vThe front portion 10 includes the two sections 13 and 14, the forward edges of which are adapted to overlap as in the usual shirt construction, and are connected inthe usual manner by buttons 15. Each of these sections includes the upper bosom portion 16 and the lower skirt portion 17. The rear side edges of the bosom or chest portions are secured by a line of stitching 18 to the inner surface of the coat B directly in front of the armholes 19. The skirt portion 17 of the sections 13 and 14 extend slightly'rearwardly of the bosom or chest portion 16 thereof so that a full skirt portion 17 will be formed.

The rear skirt or tail portion 11 is of a sufficient length so as to extend above the upper` edge of the trousers, which aredesignated by the letter D in the drawings. This upper edge of the skirt is Secured by means of a line of stitching 20 to the inner surface of the coat. The forward upper edges of the tail or rear skirt 11 are arranged in abutting relation to the rear edges of the skirt portion 17 of the sections 13 and 14.

The neck portion 12 is preferably formed integral with the upper ends of the sections 13 and 14 of the front portion 10 of the shirt member C and this neck portion 12 includes the collar band 22 and the shoulder engaging portion 23.
