To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ISAAC FRANCIS FAR- LOW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rockaway, in the county of Mcrris and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Sleeves, of which the following .is a specification.

. This invention relates to an improvement in garment sleeves, more particularly short or shirt waist sleeves.

It is often desirable, especially in the summer, to roll up the sleeves above the elbow to secure greater comfort and relief from the heat. The sleeves are also rolled up at times to prevent the cuff from becoming soiled when a person is at work. At the present time, when the sleeves are so rolled up, they present a very untidy appearance, not only due to the thickness of the rolled up portion, but also to the fact that the wrong side of the material is exposed.

In order to remedy this condition and to enable the wearer to secure a greater degree of comfort, I provide a short length sleeve having a lining of the same material as the sleeve itself and exposing the right side thereof, thus forming a sleeve of double ma terial. By rolling up a portion of the sleeve Y so formed, it will simulate an ordinary sleeve rolled up above the elbow, but have.

the advantage of exposing only the right side of the material, and the rolled up portion will not have so many folds as to render it thick and cumbersome looking, but will present a fiat and even appearance around the arm. I further provide the short length sleeve with means whereby an extension sleeve portion, having the usual cufi, may be secured to form a full length sleeve. Thus, the extension portion may be easily detached whenever desired and conveniently placed in the pocket, both saving the cuffs from becoming quickly soiled and leading a rolled up short length sleeve presenting a very neat appearance and affording a greater degree of coolness and comfort to the wearer.

Further objects and advantages will more fully appear in the following detailed description and the features of novelty will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring in detail to the drawings, my improved. sleeve consists of a unitary length, the lower portion 10 of which being turned up into and within the upper portion 11. The end of the portion 10 may be then sewed to the shoulder of the shirt at 12 or at any point adjacent thereto, thus forming the short length double sleeve. it will thus be seen that the right side of the material will be exposed both on the inside of the sleeve as well as the outside. By rolling up a portion of the sleeve to form a cuff 13, the sleeve'will present a very neat appearance, due to the fact that the wrong side of the material is nowhere exposed and'will simulate an ordinary sleeve rolled up above the elbow, with the exception that it will present a much neater appearance. 1 Upon the cuff portion 13, I may conveniently apply buttons 14, (Fig. i) to which may be secured an extension sleeve portion 15, (Fig. 7) having the ordinary cuff 16 attached thereto and provided with buttonhole's 17 near the upper end thereof, thus forming a. full length sleeve, as shown in Fig. 9. r

In Figs. 5 and 6, I have shown a modification in the application of the buttonsll whereby the same may be sewed onto the hand 18. In this form, I provide'the cull In Fig. 0, I have illustrated the extension portion 15 buttoned onto the short length sleeve, thus constituting a full length sleeve. It may be desirable to provide other means for securing the extension-portion upon the arm than by the use of buttons. To this end, I provide the upper edge of the extension portion 15 with a hem 20, leaving a slit 21 for the insertion of an elastic band 22, (Fig. 8). The extension portion may thus be inserted beneath the short length sleeve and due to the elastic band, the former will be held firmly upon the arm of the wearer above the elbow as shown in Fig. 10. Obviously, the extension portion may be made wide enough adjacent its upper end to be worn over the cuff of the short length portion and the elastic band will hold the former securely upon the latter if desired.

It will be readily understood that the portions 10 and 11 may, without departing from my invention, be separate pieces of the same material sewed together in substantially the manner contemplated and described, or the portion 10 may be of silk, satin or other fine material, so that when the cuff is formed upon the short length sleeve,

the same will have a facing of the material of the lining and thus render the shirtwaist more attractive. This form is especially adapUaI j for womens wear.

It will thus be seen that I have provid d "a sleeve which may be full length or short length as desired. lVhen Worn in summer, the sleeve may be converted into a short length sleeve by simply removing the extension portion. The short length sleeve thus remaining, will, due to the fold or cuff thereon, simulate the ordinary rolled up sleeve with the exception that it will present a much neater appearance due to the thinness ot the folded portion and the fact that the right side of the material is exposed instead of the wrong side as in the ordinary sleeve. Moreover, the extension portion may be readily put on and removed, thus allordil'lg all of the advantages of the full length sleeve in addition to the advantages above pointed out.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A short length sleeve comprising a length of material doubled back upon itself, the lower portion of said length being folded inwardly of the upper portion for a considerable por ion of ,/its length and permanently secure thereto to fer-m a short sleeve of double material, the right side of the materialbeing exposed both on the inside and outside thesleeve,said sleeve always presenting the right side of mater-into view whearolled up to any degree, and an aptu'rned told at the bottom of the sleeve forming a cut-l", the right side of the material only being exposed, an extension portion having a suit at the lower end thereof,

and means for securing said extension to the first mentioned sleeve portion.

A sleeve comprising a main short member of double material, an upturned portion adjacent the nd thereof to form a cult, the right side of the material being exposed both on the insid and outside of said portion, said 'cuii' having a plurality of buttonholes, a band, a plurality of buttons secured thereto, said band surrounding the sleeve portion beneath the cuff and the buttons extending through the buttonholes, and an extension sleeve portion provided with buttonholes adjacent its upper end through which the buttons are adapted to be inserted to constitute a full length sleeve.

A sleeve comprising a short main member of double material, a folded portion at the bottom of said member forming a cuti', the right side of the material only being exposed, an extension portion, means for detachably securing said extension portion upon the first mentioned portion, and means for shirring the upper ends of the extension portion to tighten the same about the arm.

4.
