Description

W. V. EATQN.
COLLAR.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 4, 1910.
Patented Mar. 28, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARREN V. EATON, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
COLLAR.
Specification oil Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 28, 1911.
Application filed June 4, 1910. Seria1.No. 565,147.
Be itknown that I, WARREN V. EATON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shirts of the neglige type and has for its object the provision of means whereby the wearer shall be enabled to easily, quickly and securely fasten the points of the collar to the body of the shirt and thus not only more effectively hold a neck-tie in place but also prevent the unsightly curling up of the points of the collar.
To this end the invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and jorganization as hereinafter dea shirt embodying the invention. Fig. 2,-
is an enlarged section on the line II-II of Fig. 1.
In the said drawing, 1 indicates a shirt of any suitable type and 2 means for fastening the front of the shirt together at its upper end or neckband;
3 indicates a pair ofbuttons disposed at equal distances from and at opposite sides of the centrally disposed fastening means 2, said buttons 3 being stitched as at 4 through the body of the shirt andthrough reinforce pieces 5 at the inner side of the iront of the shirt as shown most clearly in 6 indicates the collar of the shirt,-the same being shown of the four-ply type, 7 indicating the two outer plies and 8 the two inner plies of the collar and said inner plies near the points of the collar are each provided with a pair of parallel slits 9, forming loops 10, hereinafter termed finger loops each of which extends upwardly and inwardly, when the collar is in its normal position, as shown at the right hand side of Fig. 1, the material where slit being protected by buttonhole stitching.
By preference the loops 10, are provided witlf longitudinal buttonholes 11 for engagement with the buttons 3, to hold the points of the collar tightly. down upon the breast portions of the shirt and when the collar is so secured the buttons 3 and the loops are undiscernible, it being further noted that by thus securing the points of the collar to the shirt the necktie may be drawn snugly around the neckband-under the collar without pulling or twisting the latter out of shape.
The finger loops 10 enable the wearer before putting the shirt on or after to button the collar with greater facility and ease to buttons 3, than is possible with what is known as a blind button hole formed inthe collar without loops.
I am aware'that it is old to provide garment collars with buttonholes near the points of the collars or with buttonholes in .the lining or inner plies of the collars, but
I am not aware of any garment collar having been equipped before the date of my invention with finger loops in the lining or inner plies of the collar.
From the above description it will be apparent a shirt is produced possessing the features of advantage enumerated as desirable and which may be modified without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended elaim.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A garment provided with an attached collar consisting ofa plurality of thicknesses or plies, the undermost thickness or ply near the points of the collar being formed with finger loops provided with buttonholes, and buttons secured to the front of the garment where they will be covered by the points of the collar when in normal position and adapted for engagement with the buttonholes in said loops.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
