LOUIS S. ALTHEIMER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
WEARING-APPAREL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 754,734, dated. March 15, 1904.
Application filed September 3,1903. Serial No. 171,745. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS S. ALTHEIMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVorkmens Nearing-Apparel, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in workmens wearing-apparel; and it consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the completed garment. Fig. 2 is an inside view of a portion of the garment. Fig. 3 is a side section.
My invention has especially for its object the construction of a garment by means of which the trousers or overalls are supported.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the trousers or overalls, which are constructed in the usual manner.
The means by which the trousers are supported is constructed in the form of a vest. 2 indicates one side portion of said vest, and 3 the other side portion. The vest is cut in the usual style in front. The section 2 terminates in a strip 4, adapted to pass over the shoulders of the wearer, and the section 3, terminating in the strip 5, adapted to pass over the shoulders of the wearer. The said strips cross each other, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and are provided at their terminal portions with buttons or buttonholes adapted to be secured to the trousers or pants, the said sections 2 and 3 being reinforced along their edges by reinforcingstrips 6 and stitching 7. Located on the inside of the sections 2 is a flap 8, and located on the inside of the sections 3 is a flap 9. Said flaps 8 and 9 have their top edges secured to the sections 2 and 3 by means of stitching 10, the lower edge of said flaps beingleft free. Said flaps are also provided with buttonholes 11. These flaps are located on the inside of the sections 2 and 3 parallel with the lower edges of said sections and at points distant from the lower edges, so that when the sections are applied to the overalls or trousers the vest projects downwardly the usual distance of a vest and makes a neat and attractive appearance to the garment.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that what I have invented is virtually a detachable vest or bib, which acts as a supporter for overalls or trousers. Of course it is to be distinguished from overalls provided with a fixed bib.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is A detachable supporter for overalls and the like, composed of sections 2 and 3 the, front portions of which are cut in the form of a vest, said portions terminating in continuous strips 4: and 5, the said continuations forming the completed suspenders; flaps 8 and 9 secured on the inside of said sections and running parallel with the lower edges thereof and located at points distant from the lower edge thereof, and being provided with buttonholes for attachment to the front portion of the overalls; and reinforcing-strips 6 stitched to the outer and inner edges of the sections 2 and 3 and to the ends of the flaps 8 and 9 by means of stitching 7, said reinforcing-strips passing from the lower front edge of the supporter to the ends of the strips 4 and 5, whereby the strain incident to the use of the gar-- ment is imparted to said strips, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. LOUIS S. ALTHEIMER.
