- UNITED STATES PATENT OrFIc-E.
ABRAHAM WI'IKOVVSKY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
COMBINED BLOUSE AND PANTALOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,286, dated August 11, 1885. 7
Application filed January 21, 1885.
To atl w/wm it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM WITKOWSKY, of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Pants; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inven tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same. I
My invention relates to improvements in combina ion-suits, the object being to provide an upper garment or jacket with an inside band extending from either side of the front opening around the garment, to which band may be buttoned the lower garment, pants or overalls, as the case may be, and the lower garment provided with side openings arranged so that the front or rear of the lower garment may be unbuttoned and turned down Without unbottoning the opposite part, and a fly in front of the lower garment, secured by buttons in the usual manner, except at the top, where the fly is permanently secured.
WVith these objects in view my invention consists in the combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of a combination, suit embodying my invention, with the upper and lower garments buttoned together as they would be when worn. Fig. 2 is a front view in elevation showing the jacket unbuttoned and the front part of the lower garment unbuttoned from the band of the jacket and turned down, in which position the suit may be donned or removed from the person. Fig. 3 is a rear view in elevation showing the back portion of the lower garment turned down.
A represents the jacket, and B the pants or overalls, as the case may be. The jacket is made to button in front in the usual manner. Inside of the jacket and near the lower edge, but concealed by the jacket proper, is a band, a, the upper edge of which is stitched to the jacket and the lower edge left free. This band is continuous, commencing on either sideof (No model.)
the front opening and extending around the jacket, and is provided with button-holes for engaging the buttons of the lower garment. The lower garment has side openings from b to b, by means of which either the front or back may be unbuttoned and turned down without unbuttoning the opposite side. These side openings, in case the lower garment is used as overalls, give access to the pantaloonspockets. 7
When the jacket and front 0 of the lower garment are unbuttoned, as shown in Fig. 2, the suit may be drawn on or off without disconnecting the two garments at the rear. The two garments being entirely detachable, the one may be worn without the other; or in case one garment wears out it may be replaced with a new garment without incurring the expense of a full suit. As shown in Fig. 3, the back part D of the lower garment may be unbuttoned and turned down without unbuttoning the front part.
A fly extending from c to 0 and secured in the usual manner by buttons completes the list of useful and convenient contrivances of this combination-suit.
I am aware that these devices, except, perhaps, the continuous band around the jacket, have each been in use; but I have no knowledge of their having been combined in the manner described.
What I claim is In a combination-suit, a jacket with an inside band extending around the garment for the attachment of the lower garment, the lower garment, pants or overalls, as the case may be, arranged with buttons to engage the band, and provided with side openings, and a fly in front that is permanently closed at the upper end, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification, in the presence of two witnesses, this 13th day of January, 1885.
ABRAHAM IVITKOVVSKY.
