SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,524, dated October 3, 1882.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRIETTA J. LYON, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Elastic Attachments to the Waistbands of Pants, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an elastic attachment to the rear portion of the waistband of pants, mainly to those worn by children, whereby the strain on the clothing and on the buttons, in the general activity of children, is greatly lessened and the clothing rendered much more comfortable to the wearer; and it consists in the devices substantially as hereinafter set forth.

In my construction I attach strips A,of elastic, in any suitable form, to the inside of the rear portion of the pants B at a point some two or three inches below the top, and they are so attached that from the sides (3 to the center D they increase in length. It is found that the greatest strain is on the center, and by making the strips larger as they approach the center of the back I increase the capacity for resistance and save the portion most liable to give out. Instead of separate strips being used, one piece filling all the space occupied by the strips may be put in and answer the same general purpose. To the upper end of the elastics I attach the band E, having the button-holes F,which is the band usually found.

I claim- 1. The band E, provided with the buttonholes F, to the lower edge of which'is attached aseries of elastic strips, A, having their lower ends stitched to the inside of the rear portion ot'the pants B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with the band E, having the button-holes F, the elastic strips A, having their lower ends secured to the inside of the rear portion of the pants, said strips made to increase in length from the sides to the center ofthe rear portion, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
