SHIRT ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1908.
Application filed December 15. 1906. Serial No. 3427.997.
To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, JOSEPH PLAUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shirt Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shirts, and it has particular reference to an improved suspender attachment for that class of shirts, which, owing to the construction are known as open front shirts.
The invention has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient device of this character which may be readily applied for use to open shirts of ordinary construction, one whereby the lower garments will be properly sustained or supported and the weight of the garments borne by the ders of the wearer, and one whereby a free unrestrained action of the chest and lungs in breathing is permitted.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the in vention is better understood, the invention comprises thenovel features of construction and combination of partswhich will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation showing the suspender attachment detached, or before application to the shirt. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a portion of an open front shirt showing the suspender attachment applied thereto in position for operation.
Corresponding parts in both figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved suspender attachment consists of a strap, ribbon or tape composed of linen, canvas or other appropriate non-elastic fabric, the same comprising an intermediate portion 6 which is secured, by stitching, across the back of the shirt, adjacent to and a proximately parallel to the neck band 1; t e ends of the strap or tape form depending side portions 7-7 which, after extending shoul across the shoulders are permitted to depend at the sides of the shirt to which they may be secured by stitching or otherwise, said side members or portions being provided with terminal tabs 4 having buttonholes 5 whereby they maybe connected with the buttons upon the trousers of the wearer. By this construction a single continuous piece of mattrial, that is to say, a ribbon or tape of suitable length, is utilized to form a suspender attachment which may be very readily applied in position for operation to any open front shirt of ordinary construction. The shirt itself will not be exposed to any unusual strain or wear, the weight of the garments being borne entirely by the strap constituting the attachment. Shirts equipped with the improved suspender attachment may be manufactured at a cost but slightly exceeding that of shirts which are not thus provided, and especially for summer wear, the invention presents advantages which will be readily appreciated.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is 2- A new article of wearing apparel comprisingv a shirt with a suspender constructed to provide a straight horizontal portion having straight depending vertical portions at its opposite ends which are provided on their terminals with integral single tabs, said horizontal portion serving to be stitched its entire length across the back of the shirt immediately below and parallel with the neckband thereof, the vertical portions serving to be stitched across the shoulders of the shirt and also to the front opposite sides of the same, the tabs being unattached to permit of being secured to buttons of the trousers, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH PLAUT.
