I. RUSSAKOV. DVEBALLS on TROUSERS.
(Application filed Dec. 31, 1897.)

umo" WASHINGYON n c 'NITED' STATES PATENT Price,
ISAAC RUSSAKOV, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
OVERALLS OR TROUSERSi SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 631,408, dated August 2 2, 1899-.
Application filed December 31, 1897. $erial No. 664,841. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC RUSSAKOV, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls orTrousers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements inv overalls or trousers, and while it is more especially intended to be used in the manufacture of the former, yet it is applicable, with slight modifications, to trousers; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction, novel arrangement, and operation of the various parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
The objects of my invention are, first, to provide overalls or trousers which shall be stronger and more durable than such garments ordinarily are and of such a construction as to render it impossible for them to rip in the back, and, second, to provide overalls with a bib or apron which may be extended upwardly to protect the clothes of the wearer or, when desired, may be folded within the waistportion of the garment. These objects and others, which will appear in the description hereinafter contained, I attain by the peculiar construction and combination of parts shown in the drawings.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front perspective View of a portion of a pair of overalls embodying my invention, showing the bib turned downwardly and within the waist portion of the garment. Fig. 2 is a similar View of a like portion, showing the bib raised or extended. Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of the overalls, showing the construction thereofto prevent ripping in the back and illustrating the manner of securing the back and front portions together; and Fig. 4 is a rear view in elevation of the upper portion of a pair of overalls embodying my invention and illustrating the parts composing the bib as being unbuttoned.
Similar letters refer to like parts through out the different views of the drawings.
A represents the legs of the overalls, which, as shown, are provided with seams a on their adjacent surfaces, butin the present casehave no external seams. This, however, is immaterial,as they may sometimes be made with external seams also. Secured to the upper rear portion of the legs A is a single piece B, which extends, as shown, from the crotch I) upwardly over the thighs or hips and has on each side straps b and b to be secured around the waist, as will be presently explained. The front portionof the material composing the legs is extended upwardly above the waistline and forms the flaps C and C of the apron or bib, one of which flaps is provided with a fly c, having'the buttonholes c for the reception of buttons 0 secured on the other flap.
Secured to the upper portion of each of the flaps C and C is a loop or ring a to engage hooks d on the suspenders D, which are secured at their rear ends to the single piece B by means of rings or loops (1 on said piece engaging hooks d on buckles attached to the suspenders. Each of the straps b and b is provided with buttons 11 and b to engage buttonholes 12 located about the waist-line and at the outer edges of the portions C and C, which compose the upper front portion of the garment and bib or apron. The strap 1) is provided near its end with abutton b to engage the bnttonholes c and c in the meeting edges of the flaps C and C, while the end of the strap b is provided with a buttonhole b to engage the button 0 on the flap C, as is apparent.
From the foregoing and by reference to the drawings it will be seen and clearly understood that by employing the continuous piece B at the back of the garment there will be no seam therein extending above the crotch, which construction will render this portion of the garment, which is under great strain, from ripping, which so oftenoccurs inthe ordinary construction. This piece B is so cut and placed that the warp and weft threads thereof will be diagonal to the longipositions of the body. It is also apparent that by buttoning the button 0 on the strap 1) through the holes 0 and c and securing the strap b on the button 0 the garment will be secured snugly around the waist, when the flaps O and C composing the bib or apron may be raised to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings and there secured on the hooks (l of the suspenders, or, if it is desired, the said flaps may be turned inwardly and downwardly over the straps Z2 and Z) and the front ends of the suspenders secured to the buttons 12 and Z), which are buttoned through the holes therefor in the outer edges of the flaps of the bib. As the straps b and b extend forwardly and are secured at their ends it is evident that when the edges of the flaps C and 0', having the buttonholes b, are disengaged from the said straps the latter will be retained in position and will not fall down or outwardly.
Vhile that portion of my invention consist- I ing of the continuous piece at the back of the garment is more especially designed for overalls or trousers, yet it is evident that it is applicable also to drawers.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a pair of overalls or trousers comprising the leg portions A, and the continuous piece 13, secured to the thigh or hip parts and crotch of the leg portions, the warp and weft threads thereof being diagonal to the longitudinal axis of the garment, and having at its upper ends the straps Z1, and 12 provided with engaging means at the front portion of the garment for supporting the same, substantially as described.
