Description

(No Model.)
w. c. HUFFMAN & J. LE FAV'OUR. TROUSERS- No. 484,015. Patentgd Oct, 11 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM O. HUFFMAN ANI) JOSEPH LE FAVOUR, OF ALBANY, INDIANA.
TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,015, dated October 11, 1892.
Application filed February 6, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM C. HUFFMAN and JOSEPH LE FAVOUR, citizens of the United States, residing at Albany, in the county of Delaware and State of Indiana, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention has relation to improvements in trousers; and, among other things, it has for its object to provide at a minimum expensea device to serve the twofold function of aback strap for the waist of trousers and a guard for suspenders; to strengthen the position of the buttons on the waistband and prevent them from coming off, as well as preventing the waistband from ripping away from the body of the trousers; to prevent the back of the vest from catching on the buttons on the waistband, and consequently wearing the vest as well as catching on the buttons, and to prevent any accidental or casual detachment of the suspenders from-the buttons of trousers.
Other objects and advantages will-appear from the followingdescription and claim when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a waistband, trousers-bod y, and suspenders with our improvements applied; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken in the plane indicated by the lines x :1; on Fig. 1.
In carrying out our invention we take a piece of cloth or other suitable material, of a form substantially as shown in Fig. 1, having tabs (1, provided with buttonholes b and straps 0, one of which carries a buckle d or other suitable device, whereby it may be adj ustably connected with the end of the opposite strap c. These pieces A are then sewed or otherwise secured at the part e,which may be of angular or curved form in outline to the body of the trousers just below the waistband,
Serial No. 420,535. (No model.)
as shown, so as to leave the tabs at and the straps 0 free.
B indicates a portion of the body of the trousers, and 0 indicates the waistband secured thereto in the usual manner.
It is obvious that while we haveillustrated our improvements on mens trousers in connection with suspenders, yet such improvements will be found very desirable and effective in boys trousers, where they are buttoned to a waistband.
In operation, after the device has been secured to the body of a pair of trousers, as before described,it willbe seen that after the suspenderends have been buttoned in the usual manner to the buttons on the waistband the buttonhole-tabs are then buttoned on the same buttons over said suspender-ends, making it necessary to first unbutton the tabs before the suspender-ends can be nnbuttoned,
claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is a A pair of trousers having a back strap consisting of the pieces A, each of which is of an approximately-angular form and is permanently connected at its angle to the trousers below the waistband, the said pieces A having the loose upwardly-extending tabs provided with buttonholes to engage the buttons on the waistband, and the straps c, adapted to be adj ustably connected together, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. HUFFMAN. JOSEPH LE FAVOUR.
