FRANK EDWARDLILIEDAHL, OF PIERCE, NEBRAShA.
BATHING-SUIT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 23, 1908.
rammed March so, 1909.
Serial No. 459,122.
the forward half section B of each leg cover- T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that .l, FRANK E. Liu'anAnL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Fierce, in the county of Pierce and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and improved Bathing Suit, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates more particularly to a garment Worn by men when bathing in public'places. The suits ordinarily worn by men and boys consist of a shirt of woven or knit fabric, and short leg coverings formed integral with the lower portion of the body covering. The woven garment, after exposure to water and the sun, shrinks so as to fit closely on all parts of the person, and this entails an indehcate exposure of the person.
The purpose of this invention is to so construct a bathing garment for men that the objections pertaining to ordinary bathing garments Wlll be obviated, and a novel, simple, convenient and inexpensive bathing suit will be provided.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter described and defined in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the imroved bathing suit, donned by a bather; Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view of a portion of the improved bathing suit, substantially on the line 22 in Fig. 3;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the improved bathing suit, substantially on the line 33 in Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view showing a modified construction.
The body garment A, that may be formed of Woven or knit fabric, shaped to fit upon the person of a wearer, is devoid of arm coverings, and to facilitate donning of said garment, one shoulder band 0. thereof is bisected, and provided with buttons or equivalent means for connecting lapped ends of the shoulder band, as appears at a in Fig. 1.
A pair of short leg sections are formed or secured upon the inner surface of the bodyportion A, and extend down therefrom, having a length that will cover the up er half of The leg portion may e formed of a piece of fibrous material that constitutes mg. and these half sections be connected to the rear half sections C, that are preferably extensions from the rear side of the body covering or shirt A, and may be integral therewith.
The front half section of the body covering A may be extended down in front of the front sections B of the leg coverings, and in use this pendent portion serves as an apron 1), that hangs away from the abdomen and thighs, as shown in Fig. 3. As shown in Fig. 2, the notch between the leg coverings, is preferably reinforced by a lozenge-shaped patch or gusset E, which is applied upon the material and secured thereto, or may be formed integrally with said material. In Fig. 4, a slightly modified construction is shown, the front half ofthe leg portions B of the garment being integral extensions from the body ortion A and the apron D attached to saicPbody portion.
The manner of constructing the drawer legs that has been described may be changed somewhat, depending on the fabric employed; in case cloth that is woven is used and seams have to be sewed for joining together the edge portions of the goods, the special construction of details is preferably as shown and hereinbefore described; but in case the shirt, drawers and apron are knitted from yarn, these parts may be joined together by knitting, or all be formed integrally.
It will be noted that the provision of a pendent apron as a cover for the abdomen and thighs prevents an objectionable ex posure of. the person, which is the advantageous feature of my invention, and I do not wish to restrict the invention to specificconstructive means for combining the three garments as a bathing, suit.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A bathing suit consisting of a body covering and sectional leg coverings, the rear section being continuous with the body covering, and an apron depending from the front of the body covering, the sides of the apron being connected with the respective sides of the leg covering.
2. A bathing suit comprising a body covering, leg coverings formed of front sections and rear sections, the rear sections being that are formed of the lower portlon and rear ering, leg coverings formed integral with the body covering, a reinforce piece in the crotch of the leg coveri s, and an apron 15 pendent from the front of tie body covering.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
