This invention relates to a pajama pants construction. Pajamas are primarily intended as sleeping garments and any seams in the seat and hip portions become exceedingly annoying especially when the wearers are required to stay in certain xed positions, such as with invalids and the like.

The principal object of this invention is to entirely eliminate all seams, hems, belts and other structures from the seat `and hip portion of the garment so as to provide a smooth, flat contact surface.

Pajamas also tend to become exceedingly `unfortable in long bed connements due to the fact that they adhere to the body and will not slide over the bed clothing, thus, pulling tight in certain places and bulging in others. Another object of this invention is to provide va pajama pants so constructed that it will have two layers of fabric over the seat which can freely slide over each other so they will not pull or tighten on the wearer.

Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efliciency. These will become more apparent from the following description.

In the following detailed description of the invention reference is had to the 'accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.

In the drawing:

Fig. 1 is a rear perspective view illustrating the seat structure of the improved pajama pants;

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof;

Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View illustrating the double seat piece as it appears before being applied to the garment; and

Fig. 4 is a detail cross section through the double seat, taken on the line 4 4, Fig. 1.

The improved pajama pants employ only a front waist band I terminating at each side in elastic gussets II. Neither the gussets II nor the waist band I0 extend across the back of the garment. Suitable legs I2 of any desired pattern depend from the band I0 and the gussets II. The legs are closed along an inner leg seam I6 extending to the crotch of the garment. The back portions of the leg pieces terminate at the crotch level so as not to extend over the seat portion of the garment.

The entire seat portion is formed from a single sheet of fabric which is folded downwardly upon itself at the belt line, as shown in Fig. 3, to form an inner seat piece I3 and an outer seat piece I4 of similar outline. The adjacent edges of the two pieces I3 and I4 are stitched to the opposite faces of the peripheral edge portions of the leg pieces along a line of stitching, as indicated at I5. The outer seat piece is stitched on the outer face of the garment and the inner face thereof with the garment edge in between the two pieces, las illustrated in Fig. 4.

The pieces I3 and I4 extend between the legs I2 to the crotch of the garment to meet the inside leg seams I6. It will be noted that there are no seams of any nature in the back or seat of the pants. It will also be noted that there is no waist band across the back. The entire back is formed by the over-lapped seat pieces I4 and I3 which are free to slide over each other without pulling or bunching the garment.

The garment may be provided with a front opening ap or not as desired. The improved seat structure operates equally well with mens or womens garments.

While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be Varied, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:

l. A pair of pajama pants comprising: a waist band; legs depending from said band, the rear portion of the band and the seat portions of the legs being cut away at the rear of the garment; a seat member extending over the cut away portion of the garment said seat member comprising a sheet of material folded horizontally across its middle to form a downwardly depending inner piece and a downwardly depending outer piece of similar contour and a line of stitching securing the peripheral edge of the back opening of the garment to the adjacent peripheral edges of the two pieces, the inner piece being secured on the inner surface of the garment and the outer piece being secured on the outer surface thereof, the horizontal fold of the sheet being positioned at the waist line of the pants, said two pieces being unattached to each other throughout their areas except along the said peripheral edges thereof.

2. A pair of pajama pants comprising: a waist band; legs depending from said band, the rear portion of the band and the seat portions of the legs being cut away at the rear of the garment; a seat member extending over the cut away portion of the garment said seat member comprising a single piece of material folded horizontally across its middle to form a downwardly depending inner piece and a downwardly depending outer piece of similar contour and a line of stitching securing the peripheral edges of the back opening of the garment to the adjacent peripheral edges of the two pieces, both of said pieces being pointed at their bottoms and extending into the crotch of the garment to the inner leg seams thereof, the upper edge of the back of the garment being formedl by the fold of said piece.
