732,603, dated June 30,1903.
Application filed PebruaryZ'I, 1903. Serial No. 145,391. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern;
Be'it known thatI, CLARAE. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logans- Cass and State of'Indiana, have invented a newand usefulNether Garment, of which the following isa specifiv g cation.
Thisinvention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wearing-apparel, and I more particularly to that: class known as nether garmentsjand has" for its object to provide an inexpensive durable combinationgarment especially adapted for childrensuse Y in which-the drawers or tight's and stockings 5 piece. 1,.-

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevanether garment'woven or otherwise formed in accordance with the in vention, parts being-folded to show the ar rangementof the central seams and waistband. Fig. 2 is a side elevation .of the same.
. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view showing 7 the construction of the front and back buttonholes; and Fig. 4 is aside elevation showing a modified form in which the legs or,
stockings and drawers or tights are woven or hurt in one piece, the fabric of which the garment is formed being seat, and buttonholes.

tights, which consist of two sections or halves 2 and 3, woven, knit, or otherwise formed of cashmere, silk, lisle thread, or other suitable elastic fabric, prising a waist portion 4., hip portion 5, leg 'portion 6,and
half or waist portion-of each section being formed with an inwardly-turned'hem 8,.
which when the two sections are secured to- 1 designates the combined stockings and each half orsection compedal extremity 7, the upper gether forms the waistband of the garment.
The outer edges of each half or section com-- prising the garment are folded inwardly to form seams 9,which extend both in .the'
front and back of the garment from. the crotch to the top of the waistband or hem 8, the adjacent edges of each section *being stitched, sewed, or'otherwise secured -.together, as shown at 10. The line of stitching intermediate the upper and lower edges of the hem 8 or waistbandis-severed, or, if
desired, "this portion when the garment is holes-"12,' the material surrounding the buttonhole being reinforced by 'a'line or row of stitching, as indicated at 13, thereby forming a reinforced four-ply bu'ttonhole without the use of extra material and effectually preventing the garment from splitting or tearing when subjected to excessive strain, as when stooping or bending the body. The seat of the gar+ of the shirt-waist or un-- be supported on the combination-garment in which the entire garment is woven, knitted, or otherwise formedv from one piece of material. In this case the garment is preferably reinforced at the points wear, and said garment is too formed'may be left unsewed-to form button- I also provided with reinforcing-strips 16',

in one piece, the buttonholes being reinforced without the use of extra material, preventing the garment from tearing when subjected to excessive strain, the garment being supported from the waistband of a'shirt or garment without the use of suspenders, garters, or other auxiliary or extraneous supporting devices.
I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combination-garment formed in two sections, each section comprising a leg and foot top and bottom portion and a body portion,'the body portion being provided with an inturned hem forming a waistband, the two sections comprising the garment having their adjacent edges folded inwardly and secured together forming a seam in the front and rear of said g arment, the two thicknesses of material forming' the waistband being turned inwardly and secured to the inner face of saidwaistband forming a continuation of theseams, there being a buttonhole formed in the front and rear of the waistband at the juncture of the two sections, said buttonholes being reinforced atthe thereof by a row of stitchin In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I havehereto atfi-xed my signature in Having thus described the invention, what the presence of two witnesses.
