Description

PATBNTED JULY '7, 1908.
WJA. PAYNE. TROUSERS SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG- 3, 1907.
avwentoz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. PAYNE, OF CAVE CITY, KENTUCKY.
TROUSERS-SUPPORTER.
T 0 all whom it m (by concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM A. PAYNE, citizen of the United States, residing at Cave City, in the county of Barren and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'lrousers-Qrrpporb ers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in that type of trousers supporters in which the suspenders are designed to be worn under the top shirt where they will be out of sight and yet afford the proper support for the trousers, and the invention has for .its object an improved construction of trousers support of this character whichwill embody to a high degree the characteristics of simplicity, convenience and comfort, and ease of application and removal, the invention consisting in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a 'full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form or embodiment of my improved trousers sup port. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the waist band of the trousers detached and provided with one form of loops. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the stud posts detached. Fig. 4 is a view illustrating a modi fied form of the su iport. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the pad used with the said modified form. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of a modified form of loop. Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of another form of loop.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In that embodiment of my invention illustrated in Fig. 1, the improvement is used in connection with the ordinary suspenders 1 having tab ends 2, front and back. The invention consists, essentially, of pads 3, that are flat and comparatively thin and flexible so as to avoid being bulky, said pads 3 being composed. of any desired material. Each pad 3 is provided witha number of buttons 4, preferably sewed thereto, although it is obvious that they may be secured to the pad by rivets or may be of the type of button known as bachelor buttons. In addition to the buttons 4, each pad is provided, under neath the buttons, with a stud post 5 that Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 8, 1907.
Patented July '7, 1908.
Serial No. 386,978.
may be secured thereto in any desiredway. These pads are designed to be attached by the buttons 4 to the suspender ends, front and back.
In connection with the pads 3, the waist band 6 of the trousers is provided with three loops 7, preferably of flat metal, said loops being secured thereto by stitching or in any desired way. The intermediate loop is located at.the back of the band, while the other two loops are located. at points in the band where the ordinary front suspender ends come.
In the practical use of my improved trousers support, the suspenders 1 are put on underneath the top or dress shirt, with the pads 3 secured to the suspender ends. After the top shirt has been put on over the suspenders, it is pulled up slightly at the back to give the proper blouse effect, and the stud post 5 of the rear pad is secured in the loop 7, the material of the shirt being caught over the post. The front pads are then similarly secured.
If desired, the invention may be used with specially constructed suspenders, as illustrated in Fig. 4, wherein the suspenders 1 have the ends of their straps inserted through and secured by detachable fastenings in slots 8 in the pads 3, this form of pad being pro vided with the slot in lieu of the buttons 4. The pads 3 are like the pads 3 provided with posts, designated in this form 5". Furthermore, if desired, the loops may be of the form designated. 7 Fig. 6, having safety pin attachments 10 to secure them to the waistband of the trousers.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and eflicient construction of trousers supporter which may be worn with comfort un derneath the top shirt and which may be readily secured to the loops 7 or 7 of the waist band of the trousers to hold the trousers securely without the necessity of binding ones waist tightly with the ordinary outside waist belt, the shirt being held at the proper place without any undue strain thereon, and without the necessity of forming slits in the outer shirt through which to pass the fastening devices for attachment of the trousers. The device may be readily applied to the suspenders of ordinary construction, and all of the attachments comprising my invention may be very cheaply made and easily secured to the trousers and to the suspenders without the necessity of altering the trousers or suspenders in any way.
If desired, a loop of the form illustrated in Fig. 7 may be employed, the same, designated 7, being secured at its ends to a reversely curved attaching strip 7 which extends outwardly beyond both ends of the loop 7 as shown, so as to provide a broad bearing surface and prevent the trousers from being drawn up unnecessarily at the point of engagement with the suspender ends.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
The combination with suspenders, and with a trousers waist-band provided with three downwardly opening loops, of a detachable connection between the waist-band and the trousers, said connection comprising pads each of which is rovided near its lower end with an outward y projecting stud post designed for engagement with one of the loops, each pad widening upwardly from the stud post and being Wider at its upper end than its lower end and provided at said upper end and at the corners thereof with buttons designed to be passed through the ordinary button holes in the suspender ends, whereby each pad will form a connection between two ends and a loop, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
