LOUIS ROBINSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR 'IO L. ROBINSON AND COMPANY, A COPAR'INERSHIP CONSISTING OF LOUIS ROBINSON AND DAVID H. GREENBERG, OF
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
WAISTIBAND FOR TROUSERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of the Bronx of the city of New York, in the State or" New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in W'aistbands for Trousers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw ing, forming a part hereof.
The invention relates more particularly to improvements in waist-bands for trousers and especially boys trousers in which the waist-bands are provided with button holes to secure the trousers to the boys shirtwaist or the like.
The object of the invention is to incorporate in a single waist band a means for buttoning on the trousers and a means tor tastening the trousers through a belt, and to provide for this purpose a waist-band ot a simple and inexpensive construction.
In the drawing, where the improvements have been illustrated in a convenient and practical embodiment, Figure 1 is a view of a section of the improved waist-band detached from the trousers and spread out flat, Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a pair of trousers with the improved waist-band thereon, and, Fig. 3 is a sectional view, the plane of section being indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The body a of the waist-band may be made of any suitable material, such as cotton-duck for instance, and may be hemmed or left with unfinished edges as desired. At intervals around the band, belt loops 6 are stitched, the stitching extending preterably entirely across the upper and lower edges of the band as indicated by 0. More over, the upper ends of the loops are extended over and behind the band and, as shown, the top edge of the band is formed with a hem, all of which is stitched down by the 11 per line of stitching.
All of the loops b or as many of them as may be desired are provided with button holes cl whereby the trousers may be buttoned on to the shirt-waist or to some suit- Specification of Letters Patent.

able upper garment oi. the wearer, or may be worn with a belt, as 0, passed through the loops and, as worn, concealed by the trousers. hen the belt is inserted through the loops and its ends connected, and when the loops are connected to the buttons of the shirt-waist, the belt, by binding on the waist of the wearer, supports the trousers, thus removing the weight from the buttons; and the loops, by virtue oi. their engagement with the buttons, prevent the waist portion of the shirt-waist from moving upwardly and over the waist of the trousers when the wearer bends in any direction.
If desired, the front portion of the belt may be exposed, as shown, as by passing the ends of the belt through the front of the trousers.
Such a construction besides furnishing a simple device for securing the trousers by button or belt, or both, at the will of the user, offers a particularly convenient means for butloning and unbuttoning the trousers from the garment with which they are worn; for the wearer may, with the utmost ease, reach underneath the loops from either side and, by flexing them, engage or disengage the loops with or from the buttons, an operation much more readily effected than where buttons are buttoned into a less [lexiblc and less accessible waist band.
In order to compensate the strain which comes upon the buttons, whenever the wearer bonds at the waist, the loops at the back of the trousers may be made of elastic material so as to be slightly extensible whereby a relative movement between the buttons and trousers will be permitted. Such loops are denoted by f in the drawing.
It will be obvious that the improved waist-band provides a very simple construction and one that may be inaini'tactured easily and therefore inexpensively.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with a lower garment, of a plurality of loops having buttonholes to receive buttons, the ends of said loops being spaced apart and independently secured to said garment, and said loops being positioned and adapted to receive a belt which 10 cooperates with the loops to support the lower garment from the waist of the wearer. tioned and adapted to receive a belt which cooperates with the loops to support the lower garment from the waist of the wearer.
2. The combination with a lower garment, of a waistband secured thereto and having loops, the ends of said loops being spaced apart and independently secured to said waistband and provided with button-holes for receiving buttons, said loops being posi- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
