ABRAHAM SHENFIELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,652, dated July 8, 1873; application filed May 23, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM SHENFIELD, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to hold up the pantaloons at the middle and front portion, and thereby draw the pantaloous up into the crotch in a more comfortable manner than with the ordinary suspenders, that are buttoned to the band of the pantaloons near the top of the side seams, and midway between such seams and the central seam or opening. My invention consists in a three-part front suspension loop and cord, extending from the front ends of the ordinary suspenders to buttons near the side seams, and to a button at the .central front portion of the pantaloons, so as to more equally sustain the clothing around the lower part of the body; and to the central button-hole piece a loop is attached, of elastic material, to button upon the drawers to sustain them.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a view of the suspender folded so as to lessen the space occupied; and Fig. 2 shows, by a perspective view, the manner of attaching to the pantaloons.
The straps cc of the suspender are of usual character, and either cross behind or receive the button-hole ends and cord or strap 1), of ordinary construction; and at the front ends the suspender-straps a a are made with adjusting-buckles 00, in any convenient manner. The cords or straps d are made with the end button-hole pieces 0 e, and a central buttonhole piece, f, to which such cords or straps d are both united; thereby such button -hole piece f will be acted upon by the two straps d equally, and when the piece f is buttoned to the pantaloons at or near the center or front opening, and the pieces 0 c buttoned near the side seams of the pantaloons, the support to the garments will be of the most comfortable character, because the pantaloons will be sustained into the crotch between the legs and at the side seams, causing the garment to hang more gracefully, and at the same time the body will have great freedom of motion, and the shirt-bosom will be held down smoothly.
The loop I, of flexible leather, India-rubber elastic, or other material at the back of the loop f, serves to support the drawers, by being buttoned upon the front button thereof.
I claim as my invention In combinationwith the suspender-straps a a, the connecting-straps d having three button-hole pieces, e e f, constructed as shown and described.
Signed by me this 19th day of May, A. D.
ABRAHAM SHENFIELD.
