UNITED STATES PATENT FFCE.
MARCUS LOEVVENTHAL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBlNATlON-SUIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.515,435, dated February 2'7, 1894.
Application filed March 29,1893. $eria11lo. 468,234. (No model.)
To @513 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Masons LOEWENTHAL, of the city, county; and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combination-Suits, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates particularly to combination suits which are to be worn by small children.
The object of my invention is to dispense with what are ordinarily called skeleton waists, and are worn for the purpose of supporting the lower garments, such as trousers or skirts.
I will describe the garment embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front view of garment embodying my improvement, one of these garments being made in the form of a vest, and theother in the form of short trousers, or knee trousers. Fig. 2 is a back view of the meeting portions of these two garments. Fig. 3 is a view of certain parts of the meeting portions at the Fig. 4 is a perspective view, partly in section, taken through the meeting portions of the front of the garments. Fig. 5 is a similar view, illustrating the meeting portions of the back of the garments.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates a pair of kneetrousers, which may be of ordinary or any other suitable construction, except in the particulars hereinafter described. Inside the front portion, at or near the upper edge, is an inner flap or band, a, which may be secured at any desired points to the trousers proper, preferably it will be secured along its entire lower edge to a lining, and also fastened near the upper edge at short intervals to the trousers proper. In it are a number of buttonholes a, in the present instance three.
B designates a vest, which may be of ordinary or any other suitable construction, except as hereinafter specified. At its front near the lower edge itis provided inside with a band or flap b. This will be made in two sections where, as in the present case, the
garment opens down the front. It may be secured in'any suitable manner to the inside of the vest; preferably it will be secured to a lining and entirely across its upper edge. It is provided on its front surface with buttons, b, for engaging with the buttonholes a. The buttons h when engaged with the buttonholes a will be concealed by the front of the trousers proper, and the lower edge portion of the vest proper will lap over the upper edge of the trousers.
On the back of the vest B are buttons 12 and these engage with buttonholes a in a flap or band a which may be secured to the hack of the trousers inside the upper edge portion, like the band or flap c. When the buttons 11 are engaged with the button holes a they will be concealed by the upper edge portion of the back of the trousers.
Obviously myimprovement is not confined to the combination of a vest and trousers, but may be used in connection with other garments. It must be equally clear that it does not depend upon buttons and buttonholes as essential features.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A combination suit consisting of an upper garment and a lower garment, the lower garment having inside its front a band or flap, and the upper garment havinginside its front a band or flap provided with devices for engaging the first mentioned band or flap of the lower garment, and said upper garment having the edge of its outer front portion ex tended below its said band or flap in order that it may lap over the upper portion of the lower garment; the said lower garment also having inside its upper edge a band or flap for engaging with devices on the back of the upper garment, substantially as described.
2. A combination suit consisting of a vest and trousers, the trousers having inside their front a band or flap, and the vest having inside its front a band or flap provided with devices for engaging the band or flap of the trousers, and said vest having its front edge extended below its said band or flap and lapped over the top of the trousers; substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARCUS LOEWENTHAL.
