Description

A. ROTH.
GARMBNT. APPLIOATION FILED 11176.18. 1913.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
AARON ROTH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GARMENT.
Original application led September 6, 1.912, Serial No. 718,928.
Serial No. 785,234.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, AARON ROTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful AImprovements in Garments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This application is a division of my application No. 718,928, filed September 6, 1912.
The invention claimed relates to the construction of lapels of garments adapted to be lapped either way and to have lapels either folded back 0r buttoned up close to the neck.
It consists in the elements and features of construction shown and described, as indicated in the claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a detail elevation of the upper portion of the garment embodying this invention showing in full line the lapels folded back, and one in dotted line buttoned up. Fig. 2 is a View showing both lapels buttoned up to the neck. Fig. 3 is a section at the line, 3 3, on Fig. 2.
The characteristic feature constituting this invention consists in providing lapels, 7 7, of a garment with two button-holes, 8 and Sa, positioned at a suitable distance back from the edge of the upper slope of the lapel, and providing on the body of the garment buttons, 9 and 9a, which button through the button-holes, 8 and 8a, respectively, when the lapels are folded back, as shown in Fig. 1. Then it is desired to button the garment up close around the neck, this may be done either by turning up either the outer-lapped or the under-lapped lapel, or both, to the position shown in Fig. 2, in which case the button-hole, 8a, of the outer-lapped member may be in position to engage the button, 9,
of the under-lapped member, whether the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 13, 1914.
Divided and this application led August lapel of the under-lapped member is folded up or left buttoned down, as shown in Fig. 1. It will be observed that from the perfectly symmetrical construction of the two sides, the garment may be lapped either way with the same effect. The upper button on each side may be duplicated on the under or back side, as shown at 9b on Fig. 3, for buttoning the under-lapped lapel when both are unfolded,-up to the neck.
I claim 1. A garment having each front member provided with obliquely folded lapels, each having at the upper part at a line diverging obliquely downward from the fold, two button-holes, the body of the garment having buttons adapted to engage said button-holes when the lapels are folded back, the upper button-hole of each member being in position to coincide with the lower button-hole of the opposite member when the first mentioned member is folded back, and the sec ond mentioned member is extended by unfolding. Y
2. A garment having each front member provided with an obliquely-folded lapel and having on the body at positions outward from the fold two buttons, one at a higher position on the body than the other, the lapels having each a button-hole in position to be engaged with the lower button on the same member when the lapel is folded back, and-with the upper button on the opposite member when it is extended by unfolding.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, at Chicago, Illinois, this 12th day of August, 1913.
