Description

barrel) STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA I. WEBB, OF DENVER, COLOR-ADO.
SKIRTEID Union" SUIT.
Application filed May 25, 1911. Serial No. 629,457.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, EMMA I. \VEBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirted Union Suits, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to skirted union suits.
The object of the invention is to provide a union suit in which the blouse has extending therefrom an integral drawers; the
drawers extending at the seat portion down from the rear of the blouse and upwardly at its front portion under the skirt of the blouse so that the front portion of the blouse forms an apron for the drawers. This ob ject' I accomplish by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my im' proved union suit. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation 1 thereof. Fig. 3 is a front elevation with the skirt turned up to showthe drawers. Fig. 4; is a like view with the drawers flap opened. Fig. 5 is a plan of the blankfrom which the union suit is formed. Fig. 6 is a front elevation of a blouse and drawers for boys.
A, designates the blouseor apron, ter-' minating at its front and sides in a skirt A, while the back A of theblouse extends down below the lower edge of the skirt A, where it is folded upon itself to form the drawers B. Atthe ends of the folded portion of the material forming. the drawers B, are formed the leg openings B. The sides B of the rear part of the drawers B, are folded around to the front, and'their inwardly and upwardly converging edges are provided with buttons 5, or equivalent fastenings, while the correspondingly 'inclined-cdges Z), of the front flap B, of the ,drawers are provided with button holes 6 a, a. Apron strings a", are secured attl eir ends to the rear upper corners a of the skirt.
Specification of Letters Patent:
Patented Nov. '7, 1911.
A. The garment is formed from a single length of material, see Fig. 5, folded upon itself at the shoulders of the blouse, cut out at its edges and stitched together alongthe under sides of the sleeves A", and this stitch'-' ingextends down to the waist line. Then the material is folded to form the drawers portions as above described. At the inner side of the back of the waist line is secured a waist band C, the two ends of which extend thence to the upper corners of the side portions 13 of the drawers, where they are secured, and the extremities of the band may be tied or buttoned together at the upper end of the front flap B, thus relieving the upper buttons 1), of the strain and holding the sides of the drawers in place when the front flap B is u-nbuttoned.
The style of blouse may be changed to suit boys and girls; a boys union suit being shown in Fig. 6.. The suit may be made up asaninfant creeper suit, girls play suit and boyshlouse suit. The improved union suit may be readily-made up as a bathing suit also, if desired, still adhering to the main the dressing of children easy and expeditious and that the garment may be easily laundried.
Any desired collars, cuffs and other ornamental trimmings may be employed.
What I claim is:
1. A skirted union garment comprising, a blouse or apron, and a drawers, the latter formed from a length of material extending down from the waist line at the back of the apron to a point below the skirt and there folded upwardly upon itself to form the front flap of the drawers; the sides of said length of material forming the back of the drawers being folded inwardly to meet the sides of said front flap, fastening devices for side edges of the drawers; the lowermost fastenings closing the leg openings, and a waist band secured to the inner side of the back of the garment at the waist line, and also secured to the upper inner corners of the said inturned sides of the drawers, and
the extremities of said waist band being I adapted to be secured together.
2. A skirted union garment comprising,- a blouse or apron, and a drawers formed from a single length of shaped material uponitself, and stitched together along the along the side edges of the body below the arm holes to the waist line to form the apron or blouse, the material at the back extending down below the skirt of the apron or blouse and folded transversely and up under the front side of the skirt, and fastenings' for the sides of the drawers thus formed; the
lowermost fastenings closing theleg openupon itself, and stitched together along the sleeves and body to the waist line to form the apron or blouse, the material at the back extending down below the skirt of the apron 5 .or blouse and folded transversely and up under the front side of the -skirt; the side meeting edges of the drawers being correspondingly inclined and provided with fastening closing the leg openlngs at the ends of the transverse folds.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
