NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EVA GUILD OSGOOD, OF MALDEN, MASSACHUSETTS.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 645,488, dated March 13, 1900.
Application filed March 2 3 1 8 99- To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EVA GUILD Oseoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malden, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Union Suits, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to garments designed specially for children and is of. the class known as union suits, being a combined undershirt or waist and diaper. The garment is in one piece and is open at the shoulders and adapted to be opened at the bottom.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the complete garment. Fig. 2 shows the lower part open. Fig. 3 is a section showing the hose-support, and Fig. 4 shows a detail of the construction of the upper part of the sleeve.
The body of the garment is shown at A, and the front portion is provided with a V-shaped lower edge a, terminating in a laterally-extending edge on each side, as at b. The back of the garment extends downwardly below the lateral edges of the front and is practically of V shape. The back section is adapted to be folded on the line 0 c, which brings it into such relation to the lower edge of the front section as to form leg-openings at each side, while the central part closes the V-shaped lower edge of the front section, being buttoned thereto by buttons and buttonholes, as at d. This back section 0 I prefer to line with rubber cloth, and this may be in the form of Serial No. 710,261. (No model.)
a removable piece f, or it may be permanently secured in place. Y
The shoulder of the garment is open, the front and rear parts being buttoned together, and in order to easily apply the garment I extend the shoulder-openings along the upper side of the sleeve, as shown at g, the sleeve being made also with a certain amount of fullness by the use of gores.
In order to provide for the hose-supporter, I insert a tape h on the inside of the garment, the ends of the tape extending one to the front and one to the rear, where they pass through an incision in the garment, one end of the tape passing over the shoulder and fastened with the other end. A loop is thus formed through which the stocking-supporter may pass or to which it may be secured instead of being fastened to the garment.
' What I claim is' As an article of manufacture, a garment having the shoulder part from the neck to the arm and the contiguous portion of the sleeve open or slitted, and supporting-tapes depending in the garment, having their ends passing through the garment near the shoulder portion on opposite sides of the slits in said shoulders and a detachable connection between the ends of said, tapes.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EVA GUILD OSGOOD.
