UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE I. GOLDEN, F TUCSON, ABIZONA.
UNDERGARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1916.
Application filed August 11, 1915. Serial No. 44,952.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE I. GOLDEN,- a citizen of the United States, residing at Tucson, in the county of Pima and Stateof Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved under garment of the union suit variety and closed and not be liable to gap.
the ac the front'of the garment with the shoulder straps fastened. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation looking at the rear of the garment with the shoulder straps released. Fig. 3 is a yiew in side elevation of the improved garment. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line 44 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view in rear elevationshowing the closure flap spread apart.
This garment comprises briefly the body portion 10, legs 11 and 12, shoulder straps 13, and closure flaps 14 and 15 and if desired strips of elastic material 16 can be inserted in the side of the garment so that the garment will fit closely and thus be more comfortable. The shoulder straps 13 extend over the shoulders of the wearer and are then passed through slits or elongated button holes 17 formed in the front of the garment and are connected with the buttons 18 so that the garment will be supported.
It should be noted that by providing the slits 17 with the straps 13 extending through these slits andthen connected with the buttons, these straps will be prevented from having pivotal movement upon the buttons and therefore will not be liable to turn upon the buttons and slip ofi of the shoulders.
It should be noted that the straps 13 are provided with a plurality of button holes 19 thus permitting the garment to be adjusted properly. The closure flaps 14 and 15 form continuations of the legs 11 and 12,
each flap being extended across the upper portion of the adjoining leg and having its upper edge portion secured to the body portion of the garment by means of-stitches;
From an inspection of Figs. 1, 2 and 3 it will be readily seen that these flaps overlap for a relatively great extent and that therefore they will normally remain in a closed position. From an inspection of Fig. lit 5 will be further seen that .the flaps are tapered downwardly and extend through the crotch and partially up the front-of the garment and have their upper ends secured by means of stitches 21. closure flaps will at all. times remain in the closed position excepting when the flaps are spread apart as shown in Fig. 5.
I have therefore provided a union suit so constructed that it may be adjusted for length by means of the shoulder straps 13.
It will be further noted that this garment is so constructed that the closure flaps will normally remain in the closed position as clearly shown in the drawing but that the closure flaps are so constructed as to permit them to be easily spread apart.
' hat is claimed is A union suit comprising a bodyportion including forward and rear sections, the'forward section being provided with openings, and shoulder straps extending from the rear section and passing through the openings ofi the forward section below the o enin means for releasably connecting ,said der straps with said forward section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
GEORGE I. GOLDEN. Witnesses:
E. J. BUCKLEY, JOHN E. HUGHES.
