Description

B. NOXON.
v GARMENT. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 13.1918.
1,303,947. Patented May 20, 1919.
INVENTOR Bar/m2 .Afoxorz WITNESSES ATTORNEY BENJAMIN NOXON', F DENVER, COLORADO.
GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 20, 1919.
Application filed March 13, 1918. Serial No. 222,253.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN NOXON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Denver, in the State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments, and more particularly to overalls.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a garment of the character stated the leg portions of which are especially adapted to be secured about the legs of the wearer in much the same manner as a legging so as to afford a covering and protection therefor, while presenting a neat appearance. A further object is to provide a garment, the legs of which are provided at each side with spaced eyelets adapted to receive laces by means of which the leg portions of the garment may be secured about the legs of the wearer snugly so as to present a neat appearance and to prevent looseness of the garment leg. A still further object is to provide a garment of the character stated which is of substantially standard construction and which may be produced at small cost. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of a garment constructed in accordance with my invention showing the leg portions thereof in normal or open condition.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the garment as applied with the legs laced.
While I have illustrated my invention as applied to a pair of overalls, it will be understood that it may be equally well applied to any garment having two leg inclosing members. The body portion 1 of the overalls is of standard construction, being continued downward into two complete legs 2 which terminate at the ankles as usual. Each leg is made of front and rear breadths Copies of this patent may be obtained ton five cents eaolnby addressing the and has a two-ply flap 3 down its outer side and a two-ply flap 4 down its inner side. The outer flap is provided through both breadths of material with a row of spaced eyelets or openings 5 which extend up the leg to a point beloW the wearers knee, as in Fig. 2. The inner flap 4 is provided with a similar row of eyelets or openings 6. In use, the overalls may be put on in the ordinary manner with the legs 2 extended loosely about the legs of the wearer. By inserting a lacing 7 through the eyelets or openings 5 and 6 of leg 2, then folding the lateral portions of the leg forwardly about the leg of the wearer and drawing on the lacing, the lower portion of the leg may be secured snugly about the wearers leg so as to present the appearance of a legging and for the same purpose. In this manner the overalls may be quickly converted into a combination garment which includes, in effect, a pair of trousers and leggings which fit snugly about the Wearers legs. The garment is of substantially standard construction and may be produced without any material increase in cost, and is therefore considered very practical.
What I claim is:
The herein described overalls having the usual legs terminating substantially at the ankles, each leg having its front and rear breadths extended into two-ply flaps along its inner and outer sides, eyelets disposed in rows along said flaps and passing through both plys thereof, the rows extending from the ankles upward to about the knees, and a lacing for each leg whereby the flaps thereof may be drawn together up the front.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
