alls, for both adults and children.
The primary object of the invention is to .provide a garment of this character which will fit snugly about the calf of the leg in a neat and comfortable manner and which is made so as to provide for free movement of the knee-joint without subjecting the garment to undue strain.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention comprises an overall, the legs of which are formed with an opening from the knee down to the bottom thereof, the said opening having a suitable closure so that the lower portion of the leg may snugly fit the wearer, the garment from the knee upward having a loose comfortable fit, while a fullness is provided for movement ofthe knee by shirring the front of that portion of the leg to each of the side seams.
The invention also includes the following novel features and details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a; perspective view of one form of the invention, the leg opening being along the front of the leg.
Fig. 2 is a detail vertical section of the leg from a point above the knee to the bottom thereof, showing the shape of the garment when in use.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of that portion of the garment shown in Fig. 2, the leg being open. 7
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the numeral 10 indi Specification of Letters Iatent. Patented Feb 22 1921.
Application filed March 25, 1919. Serial No. 284,979. i g 2 point immediately below the knee to the ottom thereof to provide a front opening 14, which extends along the shin of the wearer, the openin lg 14 communicating with the opening 12. 7 he lower end of the leg 1s rounded, as indicated at 15, so as to properly fit over the top of the foot. The edges of the openings 12 and 14 are each rovided with eyes 16, so as to permit of t e openings being closed by a suitable lacing 17. Each edge of the opening 14 is re-inforced by a st1 ening strip 18, which extends from the top to the bottom of the opening. A hook 19 is positioned intermediate the ends and along one edge of the opening 14 and the lacing 17 is adapted to be formed into a loop 20 to engage over this hook. This manner of closing the openings 12 and 14 permits the garment to be adjusted upon the leg in a quick and comfortable manner.
The upper portion of the'legs 11 are proportioned to comfortably fit the wearer, while that portion of the le immediately in front of the knee is forme with a fullness made by shirring the adjacent edges of the front of the leg to each of the side seams 13, as indicated at 21.
By the construction just described, the legs 11 will fit snugly and comfortably from the knee downward, the back of the leg just below the knee being cut to fit the calf, with that portion of the leg immediately in front of the knee extra full so that free movement of the knee-joint is provided.
In Fig. 7 there is illustrated a still further modified form of the invention, an opening from the knee downward being rovlded in the side, as indicated at 25; This form of leg is especially designed for use in connection with childrens garments, the lower end of the leg being formed to extend over the top of the shoe, as shown at 26 and having a loop 27 for engagement beneath the instep. The particular point of difi'erence in this form of the invention over those previously described resides in the manner of closing the opening 25. This consists of buttons 28 positioned along one of the side edges of the opening, the other side edge having a lacing 29, which is fast to the openin 30 to provide loops for engagement around the buttons.
The invention is susceptible of various other changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved, to make such changes as properly fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, What is claimed is:
A garment of the class described, including a leg having side seams and an opening extending transversely across the front of the leg from seam to scam, side flaps formed by opening the leg centrally and 1ongitudi-' nally from the transverse opening to the bottom of the leg along the front thereof, a re inforcing strip extending along each edge of the longitudinal opening, eyes extending along the edges of both of said openings and a lacing passing through the eyes and common to both openings. I
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
