4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in water-proof suits for women, men and children.
.The present invention is a further development of the invention for water-proof suit for firemen and others filed by me on June 27, 1934, Serial Number 732,609.
The invention has for an object the construction of a combination suit which is composed of a jacket section and a trouser section of waterproof material attached together.
The invention contemplates to so arrange the garment that it is complete for covering ones entire body, with the exception of the head, hands and feet. Shoes or boots are needed in addition to the garment;
More particularly, the invention proposes arranging the jacket section so that its bottom edge engages over the top edge of the trouser section, and securing the top edge of the trouser portion to the jacket section so that there exists a free overlapping portion of the jacket on the trousers.
It is further proposed to form the trouser and jacket sections with an opening extending from the neck down to the crotch and to arrange a cover strip for engaging over the opening, which is secured along one side of the opening.
Still further the invention proposes the provision of a pocket located beneath the overhanging portion ofthe jacket section and readily'aclcessible'by a novel arrangement of constructing the lower portion of the cover strip in a detachable manner.
. Another object of the invention is the construction of an article as described which is simple and durable and which may be manufactuned and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:--
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of ,a suit for boys constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken onthe line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1. a
Fig. 51s a horizontal sectional view taken on 55. the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a front elevational view of a suit for girls constructed according to this invention' 'Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on the line of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 6. 5
Fig. 9 is a sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 6.
' Fig. 10 is a perspective view illustrating a boy wearing the suit shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 11 is a perspective viewof a girl shown 10 wearing the suit illustrated in Figs. 6 and 8.
Fig. 12 is a similar view of Fig. 10, but showing another form of the invention.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1-5 inclusive, the suit for boys comprises 16 a jacket section In and a. trouser'section ll of water-proof material. The lower edge I0 of the jacket section engages over the upper edge II A cover strip I6 is extended along and attached 30.
onthe other side of the opening l3. This cover strip extends from the top of the jacket portion to the crotch. It is not secured down along its entire length, but merely from the top of the jacket portion to the point lfi which represents the 35 area where the transverse line of stitches l2 secure the top edge I l of the trouser section to the jacket section. Thus, the area of the jacket section and the cover strip I6 below the line of stitches II? is free. This free area is detachably 40 secured upon the trouser section by several snap fastener elements [8. A pocket I9 is arranged upon the outer face of the trouser section beneath the overlapping portion of the jacket section and immediately adjacent the cover strip I6. Thus, the lower end of the cover strip l6 and the lower corner'of the jacket may be lifted up to make the pocket l9 accessible. This pocket is open at the top. The opening I3 is arranged to be closed by the provision of hook fastener elements 20 secured along one side of the opening and engageable with.
fastener elements are adapted to be inter-engaged by a controlling slide, as is conventional construction, one type of which is generally known on the market under the trade-mark Zipper. The free edge of the cover strip I6 is adapted to be detachably connected with the bottom of the jacket by a plurality of snap fastener elements 22.
The jacket section I0 is provided with a collar III and a pocket IIJ The trouser section I I has small bands I I at the lower ends thereof for engaging around the ankles of a wearer. At the arm pit of the garment a plurality of apertures 23 are provided for the circulation of air, and the apertures are covered by bulging flaps 24.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 6 to 9 inclusive, a water-proof suit is illustrated for a girl. This suit distinguishes from the suit shown in the prior form merely in the matter of design. It is constructed with a smaller waist portion, which is taken in by a belt, and preferably should be made of attractively colored materials. The suit comprises a jacket section I0 and a trouser section II. The trouser section II has its upper edge I I engaged within the jacket section. This edge is secured to the jacket section by a line of stitches I2. An opening I3 extends from the top of the jacket section at the front down to the crotch I4. One side of the opening is finished with a line of stitches I5 which secures the overlapping portions of the jacket section and the trouser section together. The other side of the opening I3 is provided with a cover strip I6 secured along one edge thereof from an area extending from the top of the jacket portion to the transverse line of stitches I2. The area of the jacket below the line of stitches I2 and the strip I6 below the line of stitches I2 are detachably connected to the trouser section by snap fasteners I8. A pocket I9 is arranged upon the trouser section I I' beneath the lower portion of the jacket section and immediately adjacent the strip I6. From this cursory description it is believed that the similarities of construction of the different forms of invention will be readily recognized.
The jacket section III is provided with a belt II) held in position by reason of engaging through several loops II attached on the side of the jacket portion.
This garment is of a military style. The lower edges of the legs of the trouser portion are provided with small elastic bands II to engage the garment to the legs.
In Fig. 12 another form of the invention has been illustrated in which the trouser section I I is formed loose at the bottom I I without any elastic band or boot. This type of garment may also be used by boys and adults. Suitable hood, or gloves and the like may be attached to my garments.
It is to be understood that the garment may be made of any suitable water-proof material of any color or color combinations into any style and size and may be worn by persons of all ages with any desired ornamentation, and that the seams may be made water-proof by both sewing and cementing the parts together.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reversed to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as. new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A water-proof suit, comprising a jacket section and a trouser section of water-proof material, the lower edge of the jacket section engaging over the upper edge of the trouser section which is stitched on to the jacket section, the sections having a front opening extending from the top of the jacket section to the crotch of the trouser section, the trouser and jacket sections being stitched together along one side of said opening, a cover strip stitched on the jacket section along the other side of said opening and extending down to the crotch, a pocket on the top portion of said trouser section adjacent said opening and be neath said jacket section, and means for detachably connecting the lower portion of the cover strip and the adjacent lower portion of the jacket section which is beneath said top of the trouser portion of the said trouser portion.
2. A water-proof suit, comprising a jacket section and a trouser section of water-proof material, thelower edge of the jacket section engaging over the upper edge of the trouser section which is stitched on to the jacket section, the sections having a front opening extending from the top of the jacket section to the crotch of the trouser section, the trouser and jacket sections being stitched together along one side of said opening, a cover strip stitched on the jacket section along the other side of said opening and extending down to the crotch, a pocket on the top portion of said trouser section adjacent said opening and beneath said jacket section, and means for detachably connecting the lower portion of the cover strip and the adjacent lower portion of the jacket section which is beneath said top of the trouser portion of the said trouser portion, comprising snapfastener elements on these parts.
