Description

J. ASTROVE CHILD'S SUIT Aug. 29, 1950 Filed March 15, 1949 INVENTOR fiseph ASZT'OUQ BY A %ATT0RNE Viki Patented Aug. 29, 1950 U N I'T EiD 3 Claims.
1 This invention relates to an article of clothing for children, and more particularl yto a so-callled snow suit, comprising a combination hood and body portion.
It is contemplated by my invention to provide 1 an outer suit for children of the character now generally referred "to as 'aJsn'ow suit,.'having a unitary hood, body portion and leg covering. It is specifically contemplated by my invention to provide a suit of the character described, which may be made economically, with the minimum amount of manufacturing operations, and provides means for facilely dressing the garment on children, quickly to insert the limbs, comprising the arms and legs, through partially formed and constricted cuff-like elements, while holding panel portions comprising the back and front portions to each other by rapidly engageable and disengageable fastening means, commonly referred to as zippers. I
Still more particularly it is contemplated by my invention to provide a snow suit for young children in which economies are effected in assembling the garment, by the employment of separable fastener elements and actuators thereof attachment of a portion of the sleeves constituting the garment, to the body thereof.
To attain these objects and such further objects as may appear herein or be hereinafter pointed out, I make reference to the accompanying drawing, formin a part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my garment in the closed position;
Figure 2 is a similar view, with the front closure panel open to the fullest extent;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary magnified section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Making reference to the drawing, I show a suit Ill intended to be worn by young children which includes a body covering portion ll, leg portions l2 and sleeves I3. The body portion comprises a rear section I4, having panels I5 and 16 connected by a rear seam l1, running to the crotch l8 and upwardly to a neck portion I9, to which is attached the hood 20. The back panels l5 and I6 are each formed with armhole defining edges 2|, to which the sleeves I3, previously described, are attached by the usual rear seam 22, leaving an unattached armhole edge 23, which is directed angularly from the neck line portion fit'o :the side edge :24. :and providing ;a readily accessiblearm opening.
ml re-cai mhole edges 2'3 are each provided with spaced tabs 35 which are in the edge. with -the stringer =23 :of :a row of rscoops or'sepiama-ble ff'astener elements 1-23; 'ilheiupper edges 28 of the ta'b's- 25 are .a'ffi-xed to the extension 2.9 of the hood- 0, the corners "30 of the hood being provided with ties pass through a hem portion 32 of the hood, to serve as a draw string.
The front panel 33 has an upper portion 34 connected by a seam 35 to front leg panels 36 and 31. The lower edges of th leg forming portions of the panels i536 and I'd-31 are connected by suitable stitched seams 38, 3B. The knitted cufis 39 oonstrict the leg apertures to completely enclose the legs up to the terminal 46 of the seam 38. The panels i53G and Iii-31, respectively, below the crotch portion [8, ar joined to each other by stitched seams in the usual manner. The free side edges 4| carry stringers and separable fasteners 42 and 43, respectively, complemental to the stringers and separable fasteners 26 and 27, respectively.
The contour of th edges 4| is to attach the front panel and the rear panel of the garments to each other at the extreme side. edges of the garment from the stop portions 40, and upwardly from the armpit in complementary position to the diagonal armhole defining edge 23. The panel 33 terminates in a neck contouring edge 44, the side edges whereof are provided with snap or glove fastener segments 45 positioned to engage the complemental snap fastener segments 46, 46, mounted on the spaced tabs 25, 25, previously mentioned.
With a garment as described, sliders 41, 41 may actuate the separable fasteners to form a seam running from the stop portion 40 adjacent the ankle covering portion of the garment to the edge 28 adjacent the neck line. By directing the connecting edge diagonally from the neckline to the armpit portion, the arm of the wearer may quickly be dressed without contorting it, and the cost of attaching the sleeve to the garment is saved. In addition the nature of the seam 1ocates the separable fastener thus provided adjacent the natural hinge line of the arm, in no way stiifening the garment, The separability of the panel from the armpit portion to a point adjacent the ankles provides for continuous chest covering, while leaving a partially connected sleeve for ready insertion of the child arm, in dressing it, notwithstanding the added thickness such as alpaca pile fabric or like bulk producing warm interliners which have rendered use of separable fasteners as closures at other points objectionable.
Having thus described my invention and illustrated its use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A child's garment with arm covering portions at each side thereof which extend to the neck line and have diagonal seam lines from under the arms to the neck in front and back providing integral sleeve and shoulder members, a
front body member and a back body member having leg defining portions, the front body member at both sides being separably joined at the said diagonal seam lines to the shoulder and sleeve members, and to the back member at their side edges from the under-arm portions to points adjacent the distal ends of the lower leg portions by separable fastener means and permanently connected to the back member along the crotch, inner leg portions and adjacent the distal leg portions to release the entire front upon separating said fastener means to th points of attachment at the crotch and lower leg portions.
2. A childs garment in accordance with claim 1 wherein said' separable fastener means comprises slide fasteners along the separable edges defining the seam lines.
3. A child's garment with arm covering portions at each side thereof which extend to the neck line and have diagonal seam lines from under the arms to the neck in front and back providing integral sleeve and shoulder members, a front body member and a back body member having leg enveloping portions, the front body member at both sides being separably joined at the said diagonal seam lines to the shoulder and sleeve members, and to the back member at their side edges from the under-arm portions to points adjacent the distal ends of the lower leg enveloping portions by separable fastener means and permanently connected to the back member along the crotch, inner leg and the outer distal leg portions to release the entire front upon separating said fastener means to the points of attachment at the crotch and lower leg portions.
