Description

S. A. SWEET BIB POCKET Filed Aug INVENTOR A TTORNE Patented Oct. 11, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STANLEY ADAMS SWEET, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO SWEET-ORR & 60., INQ, OF WAPPINGERS FALLS, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
BIB POCKET.
Application filed August 11, 1925. Serial No. 49,559.
The object of this invention is to provide the bibs of overalls with pockets which are equally accessible both by the right hand and the left hand of the wearer, and which will 5 ensure the retention of articles placed therein in any position ordinarily assumed by the wearer.
The invention consists of a patch-pocket of substantially triangular form, the base of the patch being stitched to the bottom of the bib or to the waistband of the overalls, and the two sides likewise stitched to the bib partway up, the apex of the triangular piece being also stitched to the bib, both of the sides of the patch between its apexial stitching and the partway stitching of the sides being left open so as to form entrances into the pocket for either the left hand or the right hand of the wearer, as I will proceed now to explain and finally claim.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, in the several figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the bib and upper part the bib being provided with the patch-pocket of this invention, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view with the patch distended.
The bib 1 may be of any usual form and construction and material, and it is fixedly attached to the waistband 2 of the trousers body 3. 4.- are buttons on the bib for engagementby the suspenders, and 5 are buttons on I the waistband at the sides for closing the body.
Preferably on the front or outside of the bib is a patch 6, of triangular form and made of the same material as the bib, which patch with the bib forms the pocket of this invention. The base or one side '7 of this triangular patch is stitched or sewed to the bib or waistband so as to close the bottom of the pocket, and the remaining two sides of the triangular patch are stitched from the bottom up to the points 8 so as to close the angular corners and form triangular pocket spaces, and the apexial end 9 of the triangular patch is likewise stitched or sewed transversely to the bib, while the portions from 8 to 9 on both sides are left open to form en of the body of a pair of overalls,
trances to the pocket for either the right hand or the left hand of the wearer.
The pocket thus formed by the bib itself and the outside patch 6, is closed at its bottom and on both sides from the bottom up to the points 8 and also at the top 9. As will be seen, the closed angles between the bottom 7 and points 8 extend laterally beyond the entrances to the pocket, and they admit of a shifting of articles in the pocket but prevent their accidental escape in practically all positions which the wearer of the garment may assume, while the open sides from 8 to 9 on both sides afford entrances into the pocket for either the right hand or the left hand of the wearer.
The construction affords a capacious and safe pocket for tools, implements and other articles used or carried by the wearer.
Variations in details of construction are permissible within the principle of the invention and the claims following.
What I claim is 1. A bib pocket, formed of a triangular piece of material stitched at its bottom to the bib and also stitched across its top and partway along both sides from the bottom stitching upwardly, and'open atboth sides from side to side between the top stitching and the partway stitching of the sides to afford entrances for both the right hand and the left hand of the wearer.
2. A bib pocket, formed of an undivided triangular piece of material stitched at its bottom to the front or outside of the bib and also having its sides stitched to the bib from the bottom stitching partway upwardly and also stitched transversely to the bib across its apexial end, the sides being left open below the apexial end stitching and the tops of the partway stitching of the sides and forming right and left hand entrances to the pocket, the bottom stitchings on the base line and side lines forming triangular pocket spaces extending laterally beyond said entrances.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of AugustA. D. 1925.
