Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1921.
Application filedianuary 24, 1921. Serial No. 429,426.
This invention relates to union garments of the kindknown as cover-alls and which combines in a loose fitting garment, a shirt and trousers in such manner as to completel cover other clothing of the wearer. Such garments are usually made of stout, strong, and durable material, such as khaki, and may be put on or taken off with more or less ease.
According to my'invention, the garment is provided with a drop-seat which may be easily secured to the waist-band of the rear portion of the shirt by two buttons and which is provided with a waistband or semi belt having extensions at its ends which may be fastened to buttons on the front portion of the waist-band of the shirt within easy reach of the wearer. In this way the dropseat may be securely held in place, may be easily dropped and as quickly replaced and fastened. portion with a curtain or apron which extends from the bottom thereof a short distance below the upper part of the drop-seat when the latter is fastened in place. This curtain or apron'is so made that should the garment open to any extent at the sides of the drop-seat the garments within the coverall may be entirely concealed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a front view of cover-alls embodying my improvements.
Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof with the drop-seat partially lowered.
Fig. 3 is a detail view, showing how the drop-seat is secured at the front of the garment.
Unless otherwise specified the garment is of usual construction.
The shirt portion A is provided with pockets a, as shown, and it is open at the front and buttoned in the manner indicated at 0,. The trousers B are provided with side pockets 6 and hip pockets b, and may be provided with'an additional pocket 6 on the legs if desired. C indicates a waist band permanently secured to the garment betweenthe shirt and trousers and extending entirely around the garment being open,
The shirt is provided in its rear however, and looped at a", in the usual Way. The front part of the trousers is permanently secured to the front of the shirt but may be open at a as usual. The rear part of the trousers is not sewed to the waistband C nor to the side edges of the front portion of the trousers but is separated therefrom at the sides, as indicated at 21 thus providing a drop seat G. The shirt of the garment is prolonged below the waistband to provide a curtain or apron D, which, when the drop-seat is raised, is disposed in rear of the upper part thereof so that should the sides of the seat open to any extent the undergarment or that part covered by the cover-all may be entirely concealed.
The upper part of the drop-seat is provided with a waist-band or semi belt E which may be provided with a button hole e on each side of the middle line of the seat adapted to engage buttons 6' of the waistband C.
Only two buttons need be used. The waist-band E is rolonged at e at each end and pass throug loops F on the sides or front portion of the garment and these extensions are formed with button-holes f, adapted to engage buttons f on the front portion of the garment. When the buttons f are thus located and the extensions are prolonged in the manner shown, the dropseat may be easily fastened in place and with greater facility than where all the buttons are located in the rear of the garment. It is preferred to use two buttons at the rear of the garment and two at the front thereof for holding the drop-seat in place. Ordinarily where drop-seats are made in garments all buttons are arranged at the rear where they are usually not conveniently accessible.
I claim as my invention A union working garment, comprising a shirt and trousers joined, and a waist-band at the union thereof, such waist-band com pletely encircling the body, the shirt opening at the front and being provided at the rear with an apron extending downwardly from the rear part of said waist-band, the portion of said waist-band above said apron carrying buttons, the trousers being split at the sides from the waist-band downwardly to provide a drop seat which is adapted to cover the said apron, the said drop-seat being provided with a semi-belt which has button-holes at the back thereof for engaging the buttons above mentioned, said semi-belt having extensions projecting beyond the edges of the drop-seat, and extending to points just in front of the side openings, means adjacent the ends of such extensions and cooperating means on the front portion of the garment near the sides thereof, for fastening the ends of said extensions, and belt loops at the sides of the 10 garment through. which said extensions of the semi-belt may pass, the said apron ex tending downwardl at the sides of the body at least as far as t e openings between the front part and the rear part of the trousers, to furnish complete covering should such side openings sag.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
