A TTOH/VE Y HERMAN B. HOFFMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION-GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 26, 1916. Serial No. 99,965.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN B. HOFFMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 736 East 163rd street, borough of the Bronx, city of New York, county of the Bronx, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combination-Gan ment, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in ladies undergarments and is accomplished by combining an envelop chemise and petticoat soas to constitute .a single garment. This is efiected by lengthening the chemise and extending same the ordinary length of a petticoat and by securing to the inside of the chemise near the waist line two depending flaps, one in the front and one in the back of the petticoat, the back flap containing an envelop tab or band which passes between the legs of the wearer and buttons onto the .front flap, so that when the said tab is buttoned or otherwise fastened, there is inside the petticoat the lower part of an envelop chemise.
The object and advantage of my invention is to provide an inexpensive and comfortable chemise, petticoat and envelop combined. The comfort is created by eliminating the bulging ordinarily incident to a separate petticoat worn over the ordinary envelop chemise, and it is inexpensive in that a separate petticoat is unnecessary and it may be made of any material, whether muslin,
lingerie, cloth, wool or other textile.
I attain-my object by the illustrations set forth in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the front view of the combined chemise, envelop and petticoat.
Fig. 2 is another front view of the same showing the arrangement of the envelop inserted in the petticoat.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the combination showing the rear depending flap containing the envelop tab.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In Fig. 1 a to 9 represents the upper portion of the chemise; a to f the petticoat; 0 the front depending flap and b the rear depending flap; (1 the envelop tab, being part of the rear depending flap; 1
6 a piece of binding secured to the center of the front depending flap and containing I button holes, to which tab or band d of the rear depending flap is buttoned or secured, thus forming the envelop; a to a is a line showing the beginning of the depending flaps b and 0 attached thereat, this line being a short distance below the waist portion of the garment. f to g represents the length of the entire combination, being from the shoulders to the bottom of the garment. b and 0 represent the envelop within the petticoat. The flaps b and a are preferably substantially the width of the garment.
In Fig. 2 al shows the envelop tab or band extending from the rear depending flap Z1. d shows the said envelop tab fastened to e by buttons, hooks or other means. f f f f is the bottom of the front view of the petticoa-t exposed.
In Fig. 3, which is the rear view of the combination, al is the said envelop tab extending downward from the rear depending flap. f f f f is the bottom of the rear view of the petticoat exposed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a garment, the combination of a chemise having a skirt or petticoat, depending front and back flaps permanently attached to the inside of the skirt of the garment a short distance below the waist portion thereof, a band adapted to be passed between the legs of the wearer to connect the flaps, and fastening means detachably connecting an end of the said band with the free end of a flap, whereby leg or drawer portions are formed wholly within the skirt a considerable distance above. the lower edge of the same so that a full skirt or petticoat effect is maintained.
2 A chemise and full-length petticoat un1ted in one garment with'inside front and rear flaps substantially the width of the garment dependin from near the waistline, and a tab united'to one flap substantially centrally thereof and having means for detachably securing itto the other flap.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. Y
HERMAN B. HOFFMAN. Witnesses: i
