GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 21, 1913.
Application filed November 9, 1912. Serial No. 730,433.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX LANGMAN, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Garment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved garment designed foruse by women as a bathing suit, gymnasium suit and the like, and arranged to snugly fitwomen of different waist measure, to provide the desired comfort, to allow of conveniently donning or removing the garment, and to permit of sanitary use without removing the garment.
For the purpose mentioned use is made of a combined skirt, bloomers and waist, the waistband bein provided with an elastic band and the %r upper portion of the skirt being open a distance to one side of the median line, the bloomers having the body portion open approximately at the front median line, and the bloomers being provided at the rear with an opening adapted to be opened and closed by a flap.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the garment as applied and showing the front open; Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the garment as applied and showing the skirt lifted to disclose the flap which latter is shown partly open; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the garment; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank for forming the bloomers and its flap; Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the garment at the waistband; and Fig. 6 is a cross section of the garment.
The garment combines a skirt A, bloomers B and'a waist C, the three parts having a waistband D in common. The Waistband D is provided in its rear half portion with a hem or a pocket D in which extends an elastic band 1E secured at its ends by stitches F to the waistband at the ends of the hem or pocket D, as plainly indicated in Fig. 5. The elastic band E is fastened by stitches at the time the said elastic band is in stretched condition so that when the band is released and contracts it gathers the rear half portion ont of the waist'and the of the waistband material, as plainly indicated in Fig. 3. It will be noticed that'by the arrangement described, the waistband snugly fits persons of different waist measure. a I
, The skirt A, the bloomers 1B, the waist C and the waistband D are adapted to be opened and closed at the front and for this purpose the skirt A is provided at the front with opening and closing flaps A, A adapted to overlap and adapted to be fastened together by buttons G and buttonholes G or other suitable fastening devices. The waist C is provided with overlapping flaps C, C adapted to be fastened together by buttons H and buttonholes .H or similar fastening devices. The bloomers B are provided at the front with overlapping flaps B, B adapted to be fastened together by buttons I and buttonholes I or similar fastening devices; The waistband D is provided at its over-lapping ends with buttons J and buttonholes J or similar fastening devices for fastening the ends together.
By reference to Fig. 1 it will be noticed that the flaps A, A the overlapping ends of the waistband D and the overlapping flaps C, C of the waist G are in alinement and located somewhat to one side of the front median line of the garment, so as to provide a continuous opening for conveniently donning the garment, when the flaps are open. The flaps B and B are located approximately at the front median line of the garment so that said from the flaps A and A hence the garment is not unduly thickened at the front of the skirt A and bloomers B. By reference to Fig. 1 it will be noticed that the upper edge of the flap 15 extends from one side of the waistband D so as not to as j flaps are spaced of the skirt and form overlying thicknesses at the waistband.
The flap is rovided with a top extension 0 provided with buttonholes H adapted to button onto buttons H arranged on the top of the flap C at the shoulders, as will be readily" understood by reference to Fig. 1. The bloomers B are provided at the rear with a sanitary opening 15 extending from the lower edge of the waistband to the crotch of the bloomers and this opening B is adapted to be closed by a closing fiap 18 forming an integral part of the material used for making the bloomers, as will be readil understood is reference to Fig. a. The fiiip B is provi ed with inturned side too buttonhole bands B formed from the flap material and provided with buttonholes K adapted to engage the buttons K' arranged along the marginal side edges of the opening B as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 2 and 4. The opening B gradually increases in width from the waistband to the crotch and the flap ]3* is correspondingly shaped, and as the latter is cut from the same piece of materialof which the bloomers are formed it is evident that this part of the garment can be cheaply manufactured.
The garment shown and described can be easily donned or removed and snugly fits the wearer especially along the waist line owing to the elastic band E arranged in the hem or pocket of the waistband.
It is understood that by the use of the rear opening and its covering fiap the garment need not be removed for sanitary purposes.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A garment, comprising a skirt, waist and bloomers, and having a waistband common to all, the front of the waist and the front upper-portions of the skirt having continuous overlapping opening and closing flaps, and fastening devices on the said opening and closing flaps for fastening the I closing flaps together, the said opening and closing flaps being located to one side of the median line of the garment, and the front middle portion of the said bloomers having overlapping opening and closing flaps, and fastening devices for fastening the said bloomer opening and closing flaps together, the said waistband having its ends terminating at the said opening and closing flaps of the said waist, and fastening means on the overlapping terminals of the said waistband. I
2. A garment, comprising a skirt, waist and bloomers having a waistband integrally connecting the said parts with each other,
the front of the waist and the front upper portions of the skirt and bloomers being provided with opening and closing means, the opening and closing means of the skirt, waist and waistband being continuous and located to one side of the front median line of the garment, and the opening and closing means of the said bloomers being approximately at the front median line of the garment, and terminating below the said waistband.
3. A garment provided with a combined skirt and bloomers underneath the skirt, the skirt and the bloomers having a waistband in common, the body of the bloomers having an opening at the rear and a closing flap on the rear of the bloomer body for opening or closing the said opening, the said closing flap being independent of the said skirt and waistband and having its upper end terminating below the said Waistband.
4. A garment provided with a combined skirt and bloomers underneath the skirt, the skirt and the bloomers having a waistband in common, the body of the bloomers having an opening at the rear, and a closing flap extending integrally from the bottom edge of the said opening and adapted to open and close the same, the said closing flap being independent of the said skirt and waistband and having its upper end terminating below the said waistband.
5. A garment provided with bloomers having a front opening and closing flaps, and a waistband adapted to be opened and closed at the said opening and closing flaps, the bloomers having an approximately triangular-shaped opening at the rear, the apex ofthe opening being below the said waistband and the base of the opening being at the crotch, and a closing flap for the said opening and forming an integral partof the body and legs of the bloomers.
6. A garment provided with bloomers having an opening at the rear raduall increasing in width from below t e waist and to the crotch, and a closing flap for the said opening and forming an integral part of the body and legs, the flap having integral inturned side buttonhole bands, and buttons on the marginal edges of the opening for engagement with the buttonholes on the said
