Description

COMBINED LOUNGE ROBE AND JACKET Original Filed July 18, 1932 INVENTOR g H A i 2; j BY any zrsc Z; ATT R EY l atented May 8, 1934 UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE Application July 18, 1932, Serial No. 623,051 Renewed March 8, 1934 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in bath robes, and its leading object is to provide a bath robe with a skirt detachable therefrom so that the portion remaining can be used as a smoking jacket.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a bath robe with a slide fastener which is attached to the lower edge portion of the jacket section of the combined garment, in such manl0 ner that it can be operated to entirely release the skirt section of the combined garment, and will be eifectively concealed when the sections of the garment are united to each other, so that the combined garment cannot be readily detected from a conventional bath robe.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain new and useful combinations, constructions, and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective, showing the combined garment worn on the body of a person.
Figure 2 is a similar view, showing the skirt section of the combined garment detached from the smoking jacket top section.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view of the outside of the garment showing the slide fastener joint between the upper and lower sections of 80 the combined garment, showing the concealed flap raised.
Figure 4 is a similar view, of the inside of the garment.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan view, illustrating the separable type of slide fasteners.
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view of a modified form of the invention, showing the construction of the lower edge portion of the upper garment section, and the upper edge portion of the lower l0 garment section.
Referring to the accompanying drawing illustrating the practical embodiment of the invention A designates the upper section of the combined garment, which is constructed in the form L5 of a complete coat or smoking jacket, being provided with the right and left wings 6 and 7, and the right and left sleeves 8 and 9.
The upper garment section A is provided with a marginal strip 12, which is attached to the i0 inner side of the jacket, and forms the upper section of the slide fastener B, which is detachable from the lower section 13 thereof.
The lower section 13 of the slide fastener is attached to the skirt section C of the combined 5 garment and against the inner side thereof, so
that it will project upwardly of the marginal edge 18, to have interlocking cooperation with the upper section 12. This lower section 13 carries slide member 14, which is slidable on both the upper and lower sections, 12 and 13, to interlock .0 the U-shaped connecting members 15 and 16 of the two cooperating sections, whereby the marginal edges 1'7 and 18, of the upper and lower garments, respectively, are brought into neat abutting engagement with each other to present, I
when in their assembled relation, the appearance of a standard; non-separable, garment.
In the modification, shown in Fig. 6, the upper garment section A is provided with a spacing strip 11, to which is attached the upper section 12 of the slide fastener B, by means of the portion 10, which is a continuation of and integral with the marginal strip 12.
The lower garment section 0 is provided on its inner marginal edge 18, with a spacing strip 7 11', to which is attached the lower section 13 of the slide fastener B, by means of an extended portion 10', which is a continuation of and integral with the marginal strip 13.
Due to the use of the extended portions 10 and 10', and the spacing strips 11 and 11, a pocket is formed which neatly receives and conceals the U-shaped connecting members 15 and 16 of the slide fastener B, spacedly from the abutting engagement of the upper and lower marginal edges, 35 17 and 18, whereby the assembled garment presents a smooth, even surface, without a bulge, at the said abutting edges, which otherwise might result from the connecting elements 15 and. 16, when interlocked, pressing outwardly against the abutting edges 17 and 18.
The combined garment may be worn, as shown in Fig. 1, as a complete bath robe, when the skirt or lower garment section C is attached to the upper or jacket section A. By sliding the slide member 14 of the slide fastener to open position, the connection between the two garment sections is broken and the skirt section C may be removed, thus providing a hip length coat or smoking jacket, as shown in Fig. 2.
The flexible flap-like lower edge of the jacket forming upper garment section effectively conceals the upper section 12 of the slide fastener, when the skirt or lower garment section C is attached thereto, as well as when the same i entirely detached therefrom.
Various changes in the details of construction illustrated and described, may be resorted to, within the scope of the claim attached hereto,
without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what'is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:-
A convertible bath robe consisting of an upper Jacket forming garment section and a lower skirt forming garment section, a spacing strip attached to said upper garment section adjacent its inner lower edge portion, a carrier strip attached to said spacing strip, a slide fastener section connected to the carrier strip and supported wholly above the inner lower edge of the upper garment section, a detachable skirt forming lower garment section, a spacing strip attached adjacent the inner upper edge portion of said skirt section, a carrier strip attached to said second named spacing strip, a slide fastener section secured to the upper portion of said second named carrier strip and projecting above the same to interlock with the first named slide fastener section at a point above the inner lower edge portion of the upper garment section, whereby the upper edge 1 01 the lower garment section and the lower edge of the upper garment section will be spacedly supported in snug abutting relation to and below
