The present invention relates to garments of the workmans coverall type wherein the waist and leg portions are formed integral, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a garment of this character having an improved back or seat construction which will facilitate access being readily had to ither side pocket or the hip pockets of ordinary trousers worn under the coverall. i

A further object of the invention is to provide acoverall garment having a drop-seat construction closed by independent slide fasteners which may be selectively operated for gaining access to any particular pocket of the ordinary trousers worn beneath the coverall, and jointly operated to entirely open the seat when desired.

A further object resides in the novel arrangement of the slide fasteners for holding the drop seat closed, and in an inexpensive arrangement for keeping the slides of the fasteners closed.

A stil1 further object is to provide a coverall garment embodying safety features thru dispensing with buttons arranged at locations on the garment where they are apt to get caught in other objects.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and'in which drawing: Figure 11s a rear perspective view of the coverall garment upon a wearer and looking somewhat at the left hand side of the garment.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary rear perspective view of the coverall garment upon a wearer and looking somewhat at the right hand side of the garment.

Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the seat portion of the garment in closed position.

Figure 4 'is a further enlarged fragmentary view showing the manner of securing the. slide fasteners closed and with one of the slide or locking members removed from the button.

Figure 5 is a front perspective view of the upper portion of the garment showing a sleeve construction-suitable for the garment.

Referring to'the drawing in detail and wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts thruout the several views, the coverall garment is of the usual loose fitting, one piece construction embodying the upper waist or jacket portion, 5with which is integrally formed the trouser portion 6 forming the legs 1 having the usual vertical side seams 8. The waist portion upper end portions of the 5 has a back 9 which is detachably secured along its lower horizontal edge or margin by means of a separable slide fastener 10 to the upper horizontal edge or margin of a rectangular back flap or drop seat portion ll of the trouser portion 6. The separabl slide fastener I0 is located at the waist line of the garment so as to extend across the back of the garment a short distance above the mouths of the rear or hip pockets of ordinary trousers worn beneath the coveralls. The two vertical side edges or margins of the seat portion I l are detachably secured to the sides of the trouser legs 1 by means of independent slide fastenersl2 and l4 which are respectively arranged at the right and left sidesof the coveralls in alignment with the vertical side seams 8. Thusthe back flap or seat portion H forms a drop-seat construction having separable connection along its upper margin and along its two side margins with the body portion of the garment.

i The slide fasteners l2 and M are of like construction and are respectively provided with slides or locking members l5 and I6 which when drawn upwardly act with a closing action on the slide fasteners, and when drawn downwardly act with a disengaging or opening action on the slide fasteners. These slide fasteners l2 and M are ofordinary construction, embodying a companion pair of fastener stringers each of which is provided with the usual attaching tape l1 carrying a series of interlocking members l8 operable by the respective slides IE or Hi. The lower ends of the stringers of the slide fasteners l2 and M are secured together by the usual end stops 19 which limit opening sliding movement of the slide members l5 and I6.

Secured to the back 9 at the juncture of the ends of the horizontal separable slide fastener l0 and the upper ends of the vertical slide fasteners l2 and M are buttons or the like 20 and 2| which respectively coact with the slides l5 and I6 for retaining the slide fasteners l2 and I4 closed. The slide I5 is provided with a ring-like tab 22 which is adapted to be engaged over the button 20 for retaining the slide fastener 12 closed; while the slide It has a ring-like tab 23 to be engaged over the button 2| for retaining the slide fastener l4 closed.

The separable slide fastener I0 is also of usual or ordinary construction and embodies a companion pair of fastener stringers 24 and 25 respectively secured to the lower edge of the back 9 and the upper edge of the seat H, each having an attaching tape carrying a series of interlocking members operable by a slide or locking member 26 which when drawn transversely in one direction across the back of garment acts to open the fastener l and when drawn in the opposite direction acts to close the fastener Hi. In the example shown, the separable slide fastener I ii is opened when the slide is moved toward the right of the wearer, and closed when the slide is moved toward the left of the wearer and in a direction toward the button 2|. The slide 26 is provided with a ring-like tab 21 which is adapted to be engaged over the button 2| for retaining the separable slide fastener l0 closed.

The end of the separable slide fastener l0 adjacent the button 20 is provided with a separable end stop 28 whereby the fastener stringers 24 and 25 are detachably coupled and may be separated one from the other when the' slide 26 is drawn to an open position against the stop 28. Thus, when the fastener stringers 24 and 25 are separated by the slide 26, the seat ll becomes detached from the back 9 and provides an opening across the rear of the garment permitting the wearer to gain ready access to back or hip pockets of trousers worn under the coverall.

By opening one or the other of the slide fasteners l2 or M, the desired side pocket of trousers worn under the coverall. Since each of the slide fasteners l0, I2 and M are individually operable, the wearer may open any desired slide fastener, or all of them if desired, to drop the seat portion ll.

Referring particularly to Figure 5, the lower or cuif portions of the sleeves of the coverall are each provided with a slide fastener 30 which act to contract the cuff portions about the wearers wrist with a neat snug fit. These slide fasteners 30 dispense with the use of buttons and provide a cuff which is free of bunglesome seams and other objectionable folds.

Changes in detail may be made to the form of the invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. A loose fitting workmans garment, to be worn over ordinary trousers, comprising a waist portion and a trouser portion integrallyconnected at the front of the garment, said garment being horizontally divided across the back at the waist line from side to side of the garment and divided vertically, downwardly at each side of the trouser portion from said waist line for a distance at least as great as the side pocket mouth of ordinary trousers, providing a main trouser portion and a rectangular drop seat portion, said waist portion at the back of the garment terminating at the waist line for abutting relation with the horizontal top margin of said drop seat portion, and three independently operable slide fastening means, one of said slide fastening means detachably securing the drop seat portion along its horizontal upper edge to the waist portion of the garment, and the other two of said slide fastening means being disposed one at the left vertical side and one at the right vertical side of said drop seat portion for detachably securing the sides thereof to the sides of the main trouser portion, whereby access may be had to either of the side pockets of the ordinary trousers worn beneath the coverall by operation of the slide fastening means at the side of the drop seat portion adjacent thereto, or access may be had to the back pockets of the ordinary trouwearer may gain access to a sers by operation of the slide fastening means at the upper margin of the drop seat portion, or the drop seat portion swung downwardly by operation of all three of said slide fastening means.

2. A loose fitting workmans coverall garment, to be worn over ordinary trousers, comprising, a waist portion and a trouser portion integrally connected at the front of the garment, said garment being divided across the back at the waist line and downwardly from the waist line at the sides of the garment, a distance at least as great as the side pocket mouth of ordinary trousers, providing a main trouser portion and a drop seat portion; a slide fastener means including companion fastening stringers secured to the garment at the waist line and to the top margin of said drop seat, a separable end stop at the ends of said stringers adjacent one of the side edges of the drop seat portion, and a slide carried by one of said stringers for coupling and uncoupling said stringers from end to end, said slide movable to a position adjacent the other side edge of the drop seat portion when said stringers are in a fully coupled position; a slide fastener means for each of the sides of said drop seat portion, each of said last mentioned means including companion fastening stringers secured to the main trouser portion and to the side margins of the drop seat portion, and a slide carried by said last mentioned stringers for coupling and uncoupling the same, said slide movable to a position ad acent the waist line of the garment when the side stringers are in fully coupled relation; a ring-like tab carried by each of the slides of all of said fastener means; a button carried by the garment adjacent said end stop for detachably receiving the ring-like tab of the side slide fastener means adjacent thereto; and a single button carried by the garment adjacent the end of said first mentioned fastener means opposite said end stop, for detachably receiving the ring-like tabs of the other two slides.

3. In a loose fitting workmans coverall garment, to be worn over ordinary trousers, the combination of a waist portion and a trouser portion integrally connected at the front of the ends of said slide fastener means for receiving the ring-like tabs of both of said slides when in a closed. position.
