2 Claims.

This invention relates to trousers waist band construction and proposes a combination and arrangement of parts by which the wearer can adjust the trousers to have a high or low rise, the rise being the height of the trousers relative to the anatomical waist line.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide trousers having an integrally or permanently attached waist band, and a superposed waist band attachable and removable from the garment at will. The lower or permanent waist band may carry belt straps, while the detachable waist band may be furnished with means for attaching the suspenders.

Another object of the invention is to provide a removable waist band, detachably secured to the trousers by a circumferentially extending slide fastening device.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a removable waist band detachably secured by independent slide fasteners each extending semi-circumferentially from the front to back and each consisting of the conventional series of coordinating hooks, with the keeper at the front and the slide movable rearwardly to fasten the hooks. This arrangement makes it possible to alter the girth of the garment by taking in at the rear seam, cutting off as much of the terminal portions of the slide fasteners as may be required, without impairing the operation of the slide.

Other objects of the invention will appear as the following description of a preferred and practical embodiment of the invention proceeds.

In the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of the following specification and throughout the several figures of which the same characters of reference have been used to designate iden tical parts:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of trousers embodying the features of the present invention;

Figure 2 is a similar view showing the upper waist band removed;

Figure 3 is a front elevation of therupper portion of trousers illustrating the fly partly opened to disclose the rear construction, and showing the detachable waist band partially removed; and

Figure 4 is a section taken along the line 4-4 of Figure 3.

Referring now in detail to the several figures, the numeral i represents in general a pair of trousers having the customary unitary or integral waist band 2 and a superposed optionally removable waist band 3. It is generally conceded, meas- 193'1, Serial No. 138.059

ured by the standards of present-day vogue, that trousers with a high rise present a more dressy appearance than those with a low rise, notwithstanding which there are a great many people who find it convenient and comfortable to wear 5 trousers with a high rise in connection with suspenders, but who would prefer a low rise waist band when wearing a belt.

Figure 1 shows the upper waist band 3 provided with buttons 4 on the inside for the attachment of the suspenders 5, while the lower waist band 2 is provided with the belt straps 6. Just below the upper margin of the lower waist band 2 are sewn or otherwise secured the lower halves I and 8 of two independent slide fasteners 9 and l6 l0. Along the lower margin of the removable waist band 3 are the cooperating parts ii and I! of the slide fasteners. Said slide fasteners extend circumferentially on either side of the trousers, the keepers II, with cooperating prongs I3 by which the cooperating parts of the slide fasteners are initially brought together, being adjacent the fly opening, and the slides ll are. moved rearwardly in the act of bringing the parts of the slide fasteners together. The fact that the lower parts of the slide fasteners are a little below the edge of the lower waist band bring the slide fasteners below the line of separation between the two waist bands and effectively conceals them from the outside of the garment. A flap iii of fabric extends over the slide fasteners from the inside, concealing them.

In Figure 3 the flap I5 is shown broken away in the middle of the trousers so that the edges l6 and H of the upper and lower waist bands are 5 visible indicating that the waist bands are entirely separable one from the other when the slide fasteners are separated. Said slide fasteners extend to a position of substantial abutment at the rear of the garment, being separated only by a very 40 small space representing the width of the hem.

One of the advantages of this detachable waist band is that it may be applied or removed while the garment is being worn. It is removed by the wearer first undoing the top button or 5 so of the fly, reaching around to the rear, first on one side and then on the other grasping the respective slides and drawing them around to the front, thus completely unfastening-each of the slides. To replace the waiste band, it is nec- 5o essary only to place the latch in the keeper at one side of the fly, then draw the slide to the rear, securing the parts of the slide fastener together, repeating this operation for the other side.
