H/S ATTORNEY TROUSER-SUSPENDER CONNECTING TROLLEY MEANS FOR TOILET CONVENIENCE This invention relates to trouser support for persons who wear outer garments over suspenders, and who are required to let their trousers down behind for toilet purposes. The purpose of the invention is to enable the rear end of suspender branches to be slid around to the front, so that the trousers can be let down behind for toilet purposes without taking the suspenders off of the shoulders, without detachment of the suspenders from the trousers, and without taking off of an outer garment such as a coat, overcoat, jacket or shirt.
Unbuttoned suspenders can be very awkward to retrieve from underneath a coat or other outer garment, but such a garment can be both awkward and uncomfortable to remove in many circumstances, and can become a serious obstacle to the retrieval of suspenders detached at their rear ends.
In some circumstances suspender strips cross one another far up from the waist line, so that it is feasible to provide flexible trolleys for the respective suspender branches, and to slide the rear suspender branches forward separately, around the right hip and the left hip, respectively, to leave the back of the trousers unsupported and unrestrained against being let down.
In other circumstances, suspender strips cross one another very near their rear extremities. In such a case a single flexible trolley is provided which extends completely across the back and around one or both hips, so that both rear ends may be swung together around a selected hip or around either hip, to leave the rear of the trousers free to be let down out of the way.
A primary feature of the invention resides in the provision of a flexible trolley member, adapted to be secured along the waist portion of a pair of trousers, one or more slides inseparably connected to the trolley member, and means for detachably connecting each slide to a rear suspender branch.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the drawing forming part of this specification,
FIG. 1 is a view in front elevation showing a flexible trolley for each suspender branch, so that the left suspender branch and the right suspender branch, respectively, can be slid around the right hip and the left hip, to leave the trousers unsupported in the rear and free to be let down for toilet purposes;
1 FIG. 2 is a fragmentary, detail view, showing a single trolley connection of one branch of the suspenders;
. FIG. 3 is a vertical sectional view showing one suspender branch in side elevation; and
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary, front view of a modified form of trouser support in which a single flexible trolley is provided for enabling both rear suspender branches to he slid together around the right hip or around the left hip in order to permit the trousers to be let down at the rear for toilet purposes.
As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the trousers are generally of conventional construction. Each side of the trousers, however, is provided with a flexible suspender trolley 12 which desirably takes the form of a half zipper. The suspenders consist chiefly of elastic members 14 which are securely connected to one another in an area 16 which is located well above the rear ends of the members 14.
The forward ends of the suspender members 14 are adapted for separable attachment to the upper margin of the trousers in any suitable manner. As shown, each member 14 terminates at its forward end in a spring clip 18, which may be detachably secured to the trousers at the front.
At the rear end, each of the members 14 carries ,a connecting member 25 through which the member 14 may be detachably connected to an associated slide 20. As shown the member 25 takes the form of a spring clip, but any conventional form of detachable connection is acceptable.
Most advantageously, and as shown, the trolley 12 takes the form of a half zipper, and the slide 20 takes the form of a zipper slide. The slide is inseparable from the trolley, but it may be slid from end to end of the trolley.
For laundering purposes, it is desirable that the trousers be made completely separable from the suspenders. The rear end of each member 14 is, for that reason among others, separably. connected to the associated slide 20, while the forward end of each member 14 is detachably connected to the waistband of the trousers.
The forward end of each member 14 may be conventionally looped through an eye portion 22 of the connecting member 25, shown illustratively as a spring clip. The forward extremity of each member 14 is attached to a conventional suspender length adjusting slide 29. The clip 25 is desirably detachably applied to a fabric loop 26, which is looped through an eye portion 28 of the slide 20.
As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the slides 20 are normally disposed at the rear of the trousers, but they may be slid around the right and left hips, respectively, to leave the trousers unsupported at the rear. The trousers may then be let down at the rear without withdrawing the suspenders from the shoulders or detaching them from the trousers. There is no need for removing outer garments and no need for fishing and fumbling for detached suspenders underneath outer garments.
In the form of the invention illustratively shown in FIG. 4, the flexible trolley 12a (in the form of a half zipper) extends continuously across the back of the trousers and around both hips to the front. In other respects the structure is desirably the same as that shown and described in and in connection with FIGS. 1 to 3. Corresponding reference characters have accordingly been applied to corresponding parts with the postscript a added in each instance, and no further description will be given.
It will be readily apparent that in either disclosed form of the invention the rear suspender ends, in unison with the associated slide means, may be shifted along the waist portion of the trousers from back to front to permit lowering of the trousers in back, and
may thereafter be returned from front to back, all
through manual manipulation of the rear suspender ends.
I have described what I believe to be the best embodiments of my invention. What I desire to secure-by letters patent is set forth in the following claims.
