Description

J. D. BELTON. NETHER GARMENT.
I APPLICATION FILED AUG-[3.19I5- v atentd De. 5,1916- ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. BELTON, OF CROWLEY, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JACK FRANKIE-L, OF CROWLEY, LOUISIANA.
NETHEZR- GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
I Application vfiled August 13, 1915. Serial No. 45,375.
T0 all --u.-]1,0m,itma i concern:
Be it known that I, JoI-IN D. BELToN, a citizen f the United States, residing at Crowley, in the parish of Acadia and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nether Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a nether garment and particularly to drawers, undershirts or union suits or combined drawers and shirts for men.
The main object is to provide a construction of drawers or other -undergarments wherein suspensory means for the male genitals is embodied so thatsuch organs will have a support and in'addition have a retaining means which precludes air passage through a front opening of the drawers and assumes a. position intermediate the drawers and outer trousers as-in present constructions, and consequently avoid the incidental diseomforts and annoyance.
Another object of the invention is to provide the suspensory means in the form of a sheet adapted to be independently or detachably connected to the garment on the interior adjacent the crotch and in combi-' nation with the adjacent portion of the drawers, to form a retaining pocket.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction of drawers with wide overlapping closure flaps at the front so as to avoid the usual central front opening through which the male genitals may extend to overcome the objections thereto.
' \Vith the above and additional objects such as will hereinafter appear, in view, the invention has been embodied inone preferred form as hereinafter described and illustrated in accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of drawers constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same article in a reversed position but with a portion thereof broken away to show the interior construction; and Fig. 3 is a. detail perspective View of a portion of the pocket and the means for connecting it to the drawers. j
Referring specifically to the drawings wherein acally drawers for men are shown, numerals 1 designate the legs which depend from a body or waist 2. Atthe front of the garconvention'al' garment, specificured. to one of the flaps, for instance, flap 4:, and be adapted to fasten to the other flap, for instance flap 3, by passage through button holes 7 provided therein. It will be noticed that the flaps 3 and are rather wide and that this construction effectively avoids a central front opening through which the genitals may accidentally penetrate. Flap 3 is unconnected with the remainder of the drawers along the line 8. and that the flap at. merely rests against flap 3 along the line 9 and that the flaps may be moved relatively when unbuttoned from the buttons b to facilitate positioning and removal of the garment.
For the suspensory means, I use in addition to the garment itself. only a suitably shaped sheet 10 and fastening means 11 to secure the same to the garment. This means 11 may be of any suitable form, for instance stitches, buttons, or hooks 12 and eyes 13 as shown in detail in Fig. 3. This sheet or pocket section 10 is disposed adjacent the crotch and has its upper edge 12' unconnected with the drawers so as to form the opening for the pocket. The construction in which the pocket section is fastened' by means of the hooks and eyes, permits detachment of the pocket section.
The section 10 together with the portion of the garment opposite the same and to which it is attached, forms an effective pocket into which the genitals may be placed or'suspended, for support. As previously pointed out, the construction of the flaps 3 and 4 prevent penetration of the Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
be understood that changes within the spirit and scope of. the invention may be resorted to.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. Drawers having an inner closure flap with a mar inal edge extending from one side of the f ront vertica 1 median line at the top to the crotch, an outer or second closure flap, fastening means for the closure flaps, a pocket carried by the inner closure flap open at its top to receive the genitals, the specific formation of closure fla s avoiding the usual vertical opening and t ereby preventing danger of penetration of the nitals through the drawers when disp'aced from the pocket, said pocket lying 1n the path of movement of and serving as an abutment for the inner closure flap to prevent undue movement across and relatively to the pocket and thereby preventing rubbing and cutting of the genitals by the second mentioned closure flap.
2. Drawers having a closure flap with a marginal edge extending from one side of the rent vertical median line at the top to the crotch, a second closure flap, said second closure flap having a mar 'nal ed extending from the opposite si e of said front vertical median line to the crotch, said closure flaps overlapping and forming an abdominal support, fastening means for the closure flaps, a sheet made se arate from the drawers, means to secure t e sheet to the inner face of the first; mentioned closure flap adjacent and to one side of the crotch, said sheet forming a pocket open at its top to receive thegenitals, the specific formation of closure flaps avoiding the usual vertical opening'and thereby preventing danger of penetration of the genitals through the drawers when displaced from the pocliet, said pocket lying in the path of movement of and serving as an abutment forthe secn presence 0 ond mentioned closure flap to prevent undue movement across and relatively to the pocket and thereby prevent rubbin and cutting of the genitalsby the secon mentioned closure flap.
3. vDrawers having a closure flap with a marginal edge extending from one side of the front vertical median line at the top to the crotch, a second closureflap, said second closure flap having a mar 'nal edge extending'from the opposite si e of 881d front vertical median hne to the crotch, said closure flaps overla ping and forming an abdominal support, astening'means for the closure flaps adjacent the top of the garment permitting detachment of the flaps, a sheet made separate from the rment, said sheet being disposed against t e inndfi face of the first mentioned closure flap so that it will form half of a ket and the rment opposite it will orfn the other alf of the ket to receive genitals, means to remova l fasten the pocket to the first mentioned closure flap, said pocket being open at its top, the specific formation of closure 'flaps avoiding the usual vertical 0 ning and thereby preventing the danger o penetration of the genitals through the drawers when displaced from the pocket, and said pocket extending upwardly at its upper edge, and said edge lying in, the path of movement of and serving as an abutment for the second mentioned closure fiap to prevent undue movement across and 'relav 'tively-to the pocket and thereby preventing rubbing and cuttin of the genitals by the second mention closure flap.
In testimon whemof I aflix my signature two 'JOHN D. BELTON.
