. Application filed November 2, 1926. Serial no. 145,806.
This invention relates to apparel and more particularly to a union suit. At the present time it has been customary to form union suits with front and rear closures but they have been found unsatisfactory as they do not remain closed, this being true even if the side portions of the suit are connected through the crotch. 4
It is, therefore, one'object of the invention to provide a suit having front and rear openings meeting through the crotch and provide the suit with a closure so constructed that when fastened at the front and back it cannot move to an open position until the fasteners are relea'sed.
Another object of the invention is to so form the closure that it may extend from the back to the front and downwardly along the inner portion of one not only serve to provide a good closure but also constitute a reinforcement.
Another object of the invention is to so form the rear closure flap that it will overlie the companion side section .of the seat when fa stened and serve not only as a closure but'also as a double seat.
The invention is illustrated in the accom-' panying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the suit in use and looking at the front thereof;
Fig.2 is a similar perspective view looking at the back;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view looking at the back of the suit with the closure flap released, and
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view through the lower portion of the suit looking toward the front.
The union suit constituting the subjectmatter. of this invention includes a body portion 1 and is formed with front and rear openings which communicate through the crotch and divide the lower portion of the suit into separate side sections 2 and 3 having leg extensions 4 and 5. At the front one edge portion of the body overlaps the adjacent edge portion when closed and is formed with buttonholes to receiw e buttons 6. It will be understood that, if desired. snap fasteners or the like may be substituted for buttonholes.
The section 7 which forms the rear portion of the side section 3 is of a different configuration from the companion rear section 8 of the side section2, Referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the upper or seatleg extension and 4 upwardly above the crotch forming portion of the section 7 is extended transversely to provide a flap 9 which tapers toward its free side and is formed with a buttonhole 10 to receive a securing button 11 carried bythe section 8. ,When fastened, the flap extension of the section 7 extends approximately halfway across the section. 8 and together with the covered portion of the section 8 will provide the suit with a double seat. The lower portion 12 of the closure flap 9 extends downwardly below the crotch 9 and projects forwardly in overlying relation to the leg extension 3 where it is joined to a flap 13. By referring to Fig. 1, it will 7 be seen that the extension 12 extends downwardly along the leg extension 4 for approximately one-half the length thereof and together with the lower portion of the flap 13 will provide avery good reinforcement for the legextension. The flap 1?) extends and along its inner side is' sewed to the body portion 3 along the side edge thereof. The outer or free side portion of the flap is provided above the crotch line and adjacent its lower end-with buttonholes adapted to receive buttons 14; and 15. .By this arrangement the closure flap 9 together with the flap 13 attached to the forward end of its outwardly S5 projecting portion 12 will form a very good closure when fastened and will very effectively prevent any danger. of thegarment gapping when stooping or sitting.- At the same time the buttons 11, 14 and 15 and certain of the buttons (3 may be released and the two side sections 2 and 3- of the garment will be released and readily moved apart. It should be further noted that the overlying portions of the side sections will be retained smooth and held in place by the button 15, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the garment will be comfortable and at the same time greatly strengthened. I I
Having thus described the invention, ll 0 claim:
A, garment comprising a body portion having leg extensions, said garment having longitudinally extending front and back openings communicating through the crotch 10E:
and defining'side sections, one side section having its seat portion provided with a side extension. overlapping the seat portion of the other side section and extended downwardly well below the crotch and forwardly W between the leg extensions in over-ying re lation to the inner side portion of the upper portion of the leg extension of the secondmentioned side section to form a crotch closure and reinforcement for the portion of the leg extension covered thereby, means to releasably secure said seat extension to the seat portion of the second side section, a flap formed from a separate piece of material secured along the forward edge of the forwardly extending portion of said seat extension in overlying relation to a front portion of the leg extension of the second-mentioned side section and extending upwardly above the crotch and secured to an adjacent edge of the first side section, means to releasably secure the upper and lower end portions of said flap to the leg extension of the second side section above and below the crotch respectively, and means to releasably hold the said side sections closed at the front.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
