Description

A. K. CZECHOWICZ. LADYS COMBINATION UNDEBGARM'E NT.
APPLICATION FILED APR- 7. 1920.
Patented June 8, 1926.
mg INVENTOR) A.fl: Czeciw WITNESSES ATTO F? N EY ALEXANDER K. GZECHOVICZ, OF ALDEN STATION, PENNSYLVANIA.
LADYS GOTMBINATION-UNDERGAR1VENT.
Specification of Letters Intent;
Patented June 8, 1920.
Application filed April *1, 1920. Serial No. 871,936.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER K. Cznorrowroz, a citizen of the United States, residing at rllden Station, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Ladys Combination-Under garment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments.
The object is to provide a combination suit of underwear in the form of a union suit wherein, by a simple manipulation of certain flaps located at the crotch of the drawers, which flaps may be quickly and easily changed from one position to another, and held in such adjusted position by the use of snap fasteners, the said drawers may be made to assume the normal shape of ordinary garments of this character, or may be so positioned at to readily accommodate the periodical bandage without coming into contact therewith, thereby thus avoiding soiling of the garment.
A full and complete understanding of the invention may be obtained from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing, but may be changed and modified so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing, in'which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures Figure l is a front elevation of a combination or union suit having the improvements applied thereto, and adjusted for ordinary wear;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevation of the crotch portion of the pants or drawers and showing the flaps adjusted to accommodate a bandage;
Fig. 4 is a similar view taken from the rear and showing a similar adjustment.
During the menstrual period great inconvenience and discomfort is suffered by the unavoidable soiling of the crotch portion of the drawers of ladies undergarments, and the present improvement is designed to pro ladies undervide a garment which may be easily changed.
from ordinary form to a position to permit of the application of the bandage, and to avoid touching the same, thus maintaining the folded or adjusted drawers in a clean and comfortable condition.
The garment illustrated comprises the usual combination shirt 1 forming an integral part with the drawers 2 having the customary verticallyrdisposed opening 3 extending from the crotch of the drawers upwardly a suitable distance in front, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and extending up a somewhat. greater distance in the rear. and havingthe usual lapping folds or flaps 4, which are adapted to be normally held in closed position, all of which is of ordinary construction.
The invention consists in providing in the front of the garment and coinciding with the upper end of the usual opening 3, a horizontally-cisposed slit 5 arranged substantially over the abdomen of the wearer and extending a distance to the right and left of the said opening 3, and the slits 6 arranged longitudinally of the leg portions of the pants 2 and extending downwardly a distance at the inner opposed portions of the legs of the drawers and connecting with the central opening 3 where passing between the legs at the crotch thereof, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The slits 5 and 6 may be readily formed during the process of manufacture of the garment and are of course to have suitable finish in order to prevent raveling thereof, the said slits thus defining flaps 7 arranged at the front of the garment and adapted to have their edges where bordering the opening to be held in closed position, as shown in fig. 1, by suitable snap-fasteners 8. The upper one of said fasteners, that is to say, the one adjacent to the horizontally-disposed. front slit 5 may be of a double form whereby the fastener on one of the flaps 7 may be made to connect with the fastener on the other flap 7 and also to snap onto a suitable member S secured to the body of the shirt portion of the garment at the center of the slit 5, as will be seen by reference to Fig. 3 of the drawing.
The lower, lcngitudinally-disposed slits 6 arranged at the crotch of the pants, define in the rear thereof, supplemental rear flaps 9 each of which has a suitable snap member to coact with the lower snap fasteners 8 carried by each of the flaps 7 and to be normally connected thereto in such manner as to preserve a continuous opening 3 extending entirely around the crotch of the pants from front to rear and permitting the same to open or close freely.
Co-acting snap members 8 are secured to the front of the garment in horizontal alinement with the aforesaid fasteners 8 and are spaced a sufficient distance away from the central opening 3 to allow the flaps 7 to be folded back, after unfastening the same and releasing them from engagement with the central fastener 8 when the said snaps 8 may be engaged with the members 8 and the flaps 7 securely held away from the central part of the garment.
In like manner the flaps 9, after releasing the same from engagement with the respective lower fasteners 8 carried by the flaps 7, may be folded back to engage with other snap members 8 arranged at the rear of the pants, and when the several flaps 7 and 9 are thus drawn back and fastened as described, ample room is provided at the front and back of the garment to accommodate any ordinary form of bandage in use. 1
From the foregoing it will be seen that simple and efficient means have been incorporated in undergarments for ladies which may be easily provided during the process of knitting said garment, and that the same do notmaterially alter the construction of the same, being capable of adjustment to assume the shape and having the features of an ordinary garment or, when desired, may
be easily and quickly adjusted for the purpose specified, and it will further be seen that the improvements will not add materially to the cost of manufacture, the only additions being a number of small, inexpensive fastening devices.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. In a garment of the class described, wherein the drawers have a continuous central opening extending around the crotch from front to rear with the usual closing means at the rear, a pair of flaps at the front of the drawers to permit said opening to be widened, a pair of supplemental rear flaps at the rear below the said closing means, and means for holding said flaps in open position.
2-. A garment of the class described comorisin drawers havin a continuous cen-' tral opening extending around the crotch from front to rear, a front horizontally-disposed slit connecting with the opening at the top thereof, and a pair ofvertically-disposed slits extending down the inner opposed faces of the drawers legs from the central opening at the crotch, the several slits defining a pair of front flaps and a pair of supplemental rear flaps, and fasteners carried by the garment and the flaps whereby the latter may be closed to form ordinary drawers or may be held back away from the crotch for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
. ALEXANDER K. ozEoHowIoz.
