Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LILLIE M. CARTER, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in One-Piece Garments for Children, of which the following is a specification.

' My invention relates to one-plece garments for children and has for its object to pro vide a romper of a single-piece of materlal which may readily be applied to children, especially infants wearing diapers, and WhlOll' will protect the underclothes and at the same time are capable of being easily opened for the purpose of making changes m the underclothing.

It is also-an object'of my invention to provide a garment of the above character which is particularly simple in construction and may be made economically with very little waste of material.

The full objects and advantages of my 1nvention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof and are particularly pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the piece of oods cut from a'single breadth indicated in dotted lines in the drawing, thus showing how little material is Wasted. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the completed garment showing the manner in which the parts thereof are secured together and with a band attached. Fig. 3 a front view of the garment in closed position and Fig. 4 is a rear view of the same.

As the garment is bisymmetrical the oods in cutting are folded alon the line X corres on s to the portion said llne which is applied to the goods with the line X-X along the folded edge of thegoods. The garment is cut beginning at 10, the half circle of the pattern effecting the circular neck-openmg 11. The fold is then out free as indicated at 12 to form a slip and the flap portions 13 and 14 are cut out so as to have recesses 15 and 16 corresponding with similar recesses 17 and 18 on the respective sides of extenon either side of sion portions 19 and 20. The garment is folded along the line WW extending through the center of portions 19 and 20, and edges 21 and 22 of the flaps 13 and 14 are sewed to edges 23 and 24 at the other side of portions 19 and in seams indicated at 2 5 and 26, thus forming short armlets 27 and 28. Circular-ended slashes or slits 29 and 30 are cut on a line across the garment below the points where the seams 25 and 26 terminate, leaving a square lower flap 31. To this flap a belt 32 is applied, the belt being formed from the strips 33 indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The flap 31 is fulled as indicated at 34, where it is sewed to the trap 32 so as to leave protruding ends 35 and 36 of said strap. cooperating with corresponding buttonholes' 39 and 40 on flap 31 and band 34. Rear buttons or fasteners 41 close the back of the garment, the lower of said fasteners cooperating with a buttonhole or other member 42 on the band 35.

From the above description it will be seen that the garment is fabricated of a single piece of material, which when closed as shown in Figs. 3 or 4 completely incases the wearer and any clothes beneath the case excepting for the neck-opening 43, arm-openings 44 and 45 and leg- openlngs 46 and 47.

The protruding ends 35 and 36 of the belt meet in the front and are secured by a button or other fastener 48. It will be noted that the flap 31 while securely held in closing position, as is evidenced 'by'Figs. 3 and 4, nevertheless can be readily unfastened so as to turn down, a matter of 'great utility Where the garment is worn by children in diapers.

A garment comprising a single piece of material having a neck opening from which a slit extends outwardly lengthwise of the material, an upper flap portion on each side of said slit adapted to be folded down upon and secured at its outer edge to the body portion so as to form an arm opening at each side of the garment, means for securing said flaps in closed position at their inner edges, a depending integral flap belt on the lower portion of the depending formed by horizontal slits in the edges of flap.
