4 Claims. (Cl. 2-80) This invention relates to infants garments and, more particularly, to such garments having improved constructionalfeatures contributing to ease of size adjustment and to donning and removing of the garment.
Infants garments of the type to which the present invention is directed are generally known as one-piece garments, although they may comprise two separate sections permanently or releasably joined at the waist line. Such garments comprise a waist section and a panty section, with various arrangements being provided to facilitate the putting on and taking off of the garment.
In accordance with the present invention novel onepiece garments of this type are provided which have the appearance of two-piece garments. The garments have novel belt or strap constructions on the waist section whereby this section may be" made to have a snug conforming fit. The waistband may further be of elastic material to assist such fit.
The panty section is a single piece including a back panel and a front panel joined by a narrower crotch panel, the back panel having side flaps provided with fastener elements or means cooperable with similar elements or means on the front panel to removably secure the front panel to the side flaps. When the two panels are thus secured, they conjointly form leg openings at each side of the panty section.
The leg openings may be bounded by elastic material for a snug conforming fit. As a further feature, the panty section may have a lining of a suitable moistureproof nonpervious plastic material. If desired, one of the fastener means for closing the waist may be made cooperable with a mating fastening means on the front panel of the panty section to hold this panel removably in the closed position.
The waist and panty sections may be of the same color or of different or contrasting colors, and special pleat arrangements may be provided to prevent the fastener elements contacting the infants skin.
For an understanding of the invention principles, reference is made to the following description of typical embodiments thereof as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In the drawings:
Figs. 1 and 2 are, respectively front and rear elevation views of one embodiment of a garment according to the invention, the garment being illustrated in the closed position;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation view of the same garment in the open position;
Figs. 4 and 5 are, respectively, front and rear elevation views of another garment embodying the invention;
Fig. 6 is a rear elevation view of the same garment with the waist and panty sections of different colors;
Fig. 7 is a partially open front elevation view of the same type of garment having a plastic panty liner and elastic legs;
Fig. 8 is a sectional view on the line 8-8 of Fig. 7;
Fig. 9 is a front elevation open view of a garment similar to that of Fig. 7 but without the plastic panty lining;
Figs. 10 and 11 are, respectively, front and rear closed elevation views of another garment embodying the invention;
Fig. 12 is an open front elevation view thereof;
Figs. 13 and 14 are sectional views on the correspondingly numbered lines of Fig. 12; and
Fig. 15 is a partial elevation view illustrating a modification of the garment of Figs. 10-l4.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the one-piece garment 15 therein illustrated comprises a waist section 20 and a panty section 30 which give the effect of a two-piece garment. Waist section 20 includes a back panel 21, front panels 22, 23, and arms 24 all suitably seamed together into a unitary structure. 7
Panty section 30 comprises a single piece of fabric unitary with back panel 21 of the waist and cut to form a back panel 31, narrower crotch panel 32, and a front flap or panel 33. Back panel 31 has side flaps 34 stitched thereto and extending therefrom.
Front panels 22 and 23 of waist section 20 have elongated straps 25 extending from their edges, the free ends of these straps having plural mating fastening elements 26 such as buttons and buttonholes, snap fasteners, hooks and eyes, and the like. When the garment is put on the infant, panel 23 is designed to overlie panel 22, and has an aperture 27 through which the strap 25 on panel 22 extends. The two straps are brought around to the front of the garment and interconnected, the plural fastening elements providing for adjustment of the amount of overlap to provide a conforming fit to the waist.
Flaps 34 have fastener elements (buttons, buttonholes, snap fasteners, hooks or eyes) 36 along their outer edges cooperable with mating fastener elements 37 on the side edges of front panel 33 to close the panty section. The side edges of crotch panel 32 are concave to provide rounded leg openings. The plural fastener elements provide for adjustment of the overlap of panel 33 on flaps 34 to provide a conforming fit.
The garment 40 shown in Figs. 4-9 is essentially similar to that of Figs. 1-3, and similar or corresponding parts have been given the same reference characters. Garment 40 of Figs. 4 and 5 differ from garment 15 in that a strip 35 of elastic material is provided along the back of the waist line, at the juncture of panels 21 and 31. This feature provides a more snug fit at the waistline.
The one-piece garment 40' of Fig. 6 differs from that of Figs. 4 and 5 only in thatthe material of waist section 20' is a different color from that of panty section 30'.
In the one-piece garment 45 of Figs. 7 and 8, panty section 30 is provided with a liner 41 of moisture proof non-porous plastic, such as a vinyl or polyethylene resin. In addition, the concave side edges of crotch panel 32 have elastic strips 42 therealong to provide a snug fit around the legs.
Garment 45' of Fig. 9 has the elastic leg strips 42 but not the plastic liner 41.
One-piece garment of Figs. 10-14 comprises a waist section joined by an elastic seam 111 to a panty section 130. Waist 120 comprises a back panel 121, front panels 122, anns 123, and a collar 124. Front panels 122 are pleated, as at 126, and belt sections 125 extend from the seams joining panels 122 to panel 121. The free edges of panels 122 are provided with mating fastening elements 142 similar to those previously mentioned.
Panty section comprises a back panel 131, crotch panel 132, front panel 133, and side flaps 134 extending from panel 131. The edges of front panel 133 and side flaps l34are provided with plural mating fastener means 136, 137 which may be snap fasteners. From Figs. 12 and 13, it will be noted that the edges of flaps 134 are reversely folded, as at 138; so that fasteners 137 are kept out of contact with the infants skin. Panty section 130 has a plastic liner 141, as in the embodiment'of Fig. 7. v 5
Elastic waist band 111 provides for a snug conforming fit, and pleats 126 provide for size adjustment, with belts 125 also assisting a conforming fit. The plural fasteners 136, 137 provide for size adjustment of panty section 120.
A feature of this garment is the provision of fastener means 140, at the outer end of front panel 133, co-
operable with fastener means 142 on waist panels 122. For example, fastener 140 may be a button insertable through lower buttonholes on panels 122.
Fig. 15 illustrates a modifiedv form of this garment in which the back panel 121 of the waist section extends below elastic waistband 111', as at 112', to give the effect of a two-piece garment. I While specific embodiments of the invention have been shown and described in detail to illustrate the application of the invention principles, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise without departing from such principles.
