To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VAm nzm D. OHRnN- STEIN, a. citizen of the United States, residing at the village of Elmhurst, in the county of Du Page and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Infants Garments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garments for infant-wear, of the type for covering the entire body, and it is fully described and explained in the specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of my improved garment in its normally closed condition when worn, and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same in opened condition for exposure of and access to the lower part of the body of the wearer.

The primary object of my inventlon 1s to provide a construction of garment 1n the class referred to whereby it may be readily and conveniently opened for exposure of and access to the lower part of the wearers body, as for diaper application and chang ing, without requiring, to accomplish the opening purpose, that the portion of the garment covering the upper part of the body be disturbed or opened with resultant exposure of such upper part.

The garment comprises a front section 3 and a corresponding rear section 4:, these sections being each formed with arm-extensions sewed together along their edges to' form the arms 5, 5 at opposite sides of a neck-opening 6. The edges of the sections 3 and 1 below the arms are stitched together to the points indicated at m, a from which similar flaps 7, 7 of trapezoidal form extend from the rear section, which also has a lower flap-extension 8 to fold upwardly against the lower portion of the face of the section 3, the flaps 7 being adapted to fold toward each other over the folded flap 8, as represented in Fig. 1.

. A breast-opening is shown in the garment at 9 with buttons 10 on one side and a closure-flap 11 on the other side having button-holes to engage the buttons 10.

The flap 8 contains a button-hole at 12 and button-holes at 13 to respectively en gage, in its folded condition, a button at 12 and buttons at 13 on the section 8; and button-holes at 13 on the flaps 7 are adapted,

when these flaps are folded toward each other, in the mutually overlapping condition represented in Fig. 1, over the folded flap 8 to engage the button 12 for fastening them.

Should the garment become unbuttoned at the buttons 13, 13, or should said buttons be detached the flap portion 8 would protect the wearer from exposure due to its being buttoned at 12, the flaps 7 extending thereover and also secured to the button 12 by means f the buttonholes 13 as clearly illustrated in the drawing, thus giving additional security from exposure and providing a. sin gle securing point or means for said flaps 7 and 8. It is obvious that, if desired, the buttons 13, 13, may be omitted, the securing means 12 serving to effectually hold the parts in closed position.

My improvement enables the lower part of the body of an infant wearer of the garment to be completely uncovered, on unbuttoning the flaps and spreading them out into the condition represented in Fig. 2, for exposure with convenient access for attention to the infants toilet without requiring the garment to be otherwise disturbed with in cidental uncovering of the upper part of the wearers body and resultant liability to chilling; and with the flaps folded into the condition represented in Fig. 1 they afford complete protection in the way of sealing the garment.

I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of the construction herein shown and described, and I do not intend to limit myself thereto except as pointed out in the following claims, in which it is my intention to claim all the novelty in herent in my improvement as broadly as is permitted by the state of the art.

I claim:

1. A garment of the character described comprising a rear and a front section, the rear section having a lower flap-extension folding over the lower portion of the front section, flaps extending from the opposite sides of the garment and folding toward each other over said folded flap-extension, and means adjacent the lower end of said 7 front section for securing said flap-extension and said side flaps in place at one point on the garment and in superposed relation.
